The longer a man lives, the greater the chance his actions will cost him in the future. When that man is an immortal nephilim, the misdeeds can really pile up. Lucas has paid for the crimes of his past for centuries, resisting any close relationship that might make his life even more difficult. Until Melena. Only she could begin to melt the ice shielding his heart, but then he was captured by his greatest enemies - angels.
Now imprisoned in Purgatory, Lucas is awaiting trial for his latest crime and knows the verdict will not be in his favor. Lucas is resigned to the fact that his life might be over, but he fears that without his protection Melena may not survive for long. She's got her own enemies back in Alaska, and her mortality makes her easy prey. Whatever happens to him, Lucas must find a way to keep her safe. No matter the cost.
Contains mature themes.

I hate that he is where he is, but I love that we got to see what makes him tick and why. And oh my word all the feels!! I don’t want to give anything away but the Malena parts they will make you just feel so much for these two.
Love man its Love.
Again I really liked Cris’s narration for this series.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

If you could sum up Chained by Darkness in three words, what would they be?
Worth a creditHow did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator is not terrible but definitely needs some improvement. She has a good voice for narration. However, she ends almost every sentence in the same tone of voice - This keeps the listener from being drawn into the story in the way an experienced narrator can do.Any additional comments?
I hesitated to purchase this book because I prefer a long audio book. However, if you have started this series and are enjoying it I believe this book 2.5 is an integral part of the story. I am enjoying the story line very much. I just wish the narrator didn't sound so much like she is reading one sentence at a time vs. telling the story.Great Series if you can get past the Narrator

The prisoners are starved for months, tortured with having their skin peeled off, fight each other to near death, boiled alive, have holes punctured all over them, etc. This was too much for me.
Lucas is being punished for not saving the Sensor, and also for saving her. That doesn't make sense. They suggested he keep her from the fight against her will, which he was also not allowed to do. So they wanted him to break one rule, but not the other?
They have a therapist determining if his father caused him PTSD when he was young. If so, that might explain his behaviour and get him off. Yet at the same time, they are putting him in extreme torture and depravation while he's there. Why would they care if his father caused him PTSD if they are doing even more to cause it now?
Zoe gets off lightly, even though she summoned the demon, but Lucas is almost executed and given a long sentence even though he was doing his best to do the right thing.
Then at the end, he fights to makes a deal with an angel that also doesn't make sense. In some ways, they act like Melena's survival is the most important thing, but the angels could easily save her or have Lucas save her. Instead, they punish Lucas for the opportunity to try to save her. Doesn't make sense. Then they break more of their own rules.
There are a couple of things we find out in this book that I'm sure will help with future books, but I wish I would have just skipped it. Read a recap or spoiler instead. Not sure if I want to continue with the series since it sounds like it won't get better right away. Too bad.
Didn't like this one, too gloomy
