Resumen del Editor

Canada is known all over the world due to its undying commitment to multiculturalism and its social and ethnic diversity. In a time when these values were unspoken of, Canada was the first country to embrace an official multiculturalism policy. Nevertheless, the path that Canada followed to become the powerful nation it is today was like a labyrinth, filled with challenges and obstacles.

Starting from Canada's first inhabitants and explorers, this brief book will offer you a comprehensive overview of Canada's history, as it presents the key events that altered the course of this nation irrevocably. The following aspects are included in the book:

  • The coming of the Aboriginal peoples to Canada
  • The first Viking expedition to Canada led by Leif Eriksson
  • The initial European explorations that took place during the 15th-16th centuries and how these laid the grounds for the colonization movement that followed afterward
  • Canada's role and place in the world today
  • The primary elements that shape the Canadian culture and what makes it so distinctive
  • Main places to visit in Canada: some sights and attractions that you shouldn't miss from your itinerary if you want to understand Canada's culture and uniqueness

Only when you aim at learning about a country's history could you fully grasp its culture and evolution. That's what makes this book the perfect resource for those who want to enlarge their knowledge of Canada.

Canada is a country that seems to relish unlimited space. It is dynamic, unique, and complex, being much more than a multicultural society; it is also a multinational one. The details pointed to in this book link Canada's past and present to its potential future. I challenge you to broaden your comprehension of Canada and get this book today! This beautiful country is unexpectedly intriguing once you get to learn more about it.

Useful overview of colonial Canada. But...

Well... If I were to guess, I would say the book was written by someone who is not a native English speaker. There are incorrect and endlessly repeated use of terms like: nonetheless, notwithstanding, on the opposite. Clearly there was no editor involved in the publication of this work.

On the plus side, the book does give a concise and coherent history of the European colonization of Canada that, from what I can tell, is essentially correct. This was very helpful for me as a first read about Canadian history. Now I will delve into better texts.

The book's sub-title notwithstanding (😉), there is almost nothing about the history afterwards, save mention of Canada's official adoption of multi-culturalism as a core value. The discussion of contemporary Canadian culture is largely uninformative and not so coherent, and the inclusion of an overview of Canadian tourist sites is just bizarre. It feels like the section on modern-day Canada was hastily written and tacked on to be able to say the book is contemporary.

I hate to say it, but this was an amateur effort.

Good topics, bad narration

I was so eager to read this book and learn a bit about Canadian history, but I honestly could not get past the poor pronunciations for names of Aboriginal groups. It really bothered me to the point that I didn't get past the first few chapters.

I appreciate the context of the book but I feel the narration really ruins it.

Very weird

Some good info, very basic text. Reads awkwardly like it was written by a tech support guy in India.

Good Introduction to Canadian History

This book is an introductory survey of Canadian history. If you’re already quite familiar with the topic then it might not be for you. If you’re new to it, this is a great place to start. This short overview can provide the context you need in oder to understand more narrow texts.

Not a lot of information for a history text.

I knew It was a short book, yet I didn’t realize that so little of it was devoted to actual history but instead of giving glowing reviews of multiculturalism.

Really strange audiobook...

This was a really strange one. I'm glad I listened to it, and I learned a few valuable things. But the writing style was really awkward, and the narration was awful. Like a robot. The text felt like it was from a poorly edited 9th-grade social studies textbook.

Wouldn't recommend it unless you can't find anything else.

Incomplete History

"....to Modern Times" is right in the title, yet there is no discussion of Canadian history involving anything west of Ontario! Couple that with the fact that the narrator makes numerous mistakes in pronunciation, and this book is a disaster!

Editing

Not enough pauses at end of topics, and end of words clipped off. Well written and well told. Not well edited.
