The spirits of the past and present call out to those with the ears to hear. The worlds of the Kami and Mankind are not far apart, and perhaps the border is only in the mind. Primarily this was intended to be a collection of poetry inspired by and retelling some stories from Japanese mythology and feeling the path of Shinto generated while working on my first novel. However, it has become much more. Meditate upon the poems and a flower unfolds slowly before your eyes, allowing a glimpse into a world unseen.

Where does Call of the Kami rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far Call of the Kami holds first place among all the audiobooks that I've listened to over the years.

What other book might you compare Call of the Kami to and why?

This book is unique in my opinion, but can be related to "The Essence of Shinto" and the reading of that book would only add new layers to both the poems and the narrator's performance.

What about Andrea C. Missias’s performance did you like?

I loved how easily the narrator slipped through the rhythms of the poems. Even the prose she captured the poetry and imagery in. Her voice fit the book perfectly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Rain Spirit's Loss or Gain was the point that most deeply moved me while listening. Clay Bowl ranks number two in most moving moments.

Any additional comments?

Although the book is primarily poetry and composed of several different poems the whole tells the overall story of the miko's journey. Listening we hear how the miko is more than what we may at first think.
