When the Khourys and McKissicks meet to share a neighborly meal, an adventure begins.

Living in the changing ethnic landscape of Kansas City, one is a family of Syrian immigrants; the other, African Americans with roots in Louisiana. What brings them together is a love of food. Along with friendship, a dream takes root between the two mothers, Miriam and Tamara - starting a new restaurant that will feature the specialties from both of their traditions, the Caf Deux Mondes, or Two Worlds Cafe. Little do they know just what they are up against when they begin their little venture.

A short story filled with real, relatable, and delightful characters. Never have I more wanted a short story to be longer!

Short and sweet

A lovely story about two cultures coming together and existing in harmony. I know I'll be rereading this one many times over.

Engaging human interest story

Cafe Duex Mondes is a very interesting story with a cast of well developed characters that leaves the reader with reluctance for the ending. It’s easy to imagine those people carrying on with their voices resonating long after the last written word. The author manages to tackle race, religion, and socioeconomic disparities without beating a political drum, instead keeping it very real and personal. The narration is one of the best I’ve heard in audible, with an incredible range portraying different genders, ages, races and most of all personalities. I look forward to more from this narrator and from the author.
