From V. E. Schwab, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: a new genre-defying novel about immortality and hunger.

This is a story about hunger.

1532. Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

A young girl grows up wild and wily—her beauty is only outmatched by her dreams of escape. But María knows she can only ever be a prize, or a pawn, in the games played by men. When an alluring stranger offers an alternate path, María makes a desperate choice. She vows to have no regrets.

This is a story about love.

1827. London.
A young woman lives an idyllic but cloistered life on her family’s estate, until a moment of forbidden intimacy sees her shipped off to London. Charlotte’s tender heart and seemingly impossible wishes are swept away by an invitation from a beautiful widow—but the price of freedom is higher than she could have imagined.

This is a story about rage.

2019. Boston.

College was supposed to be her chance to be someone new. That’s why Alice moved halfway across the world, leaving her old life behind. But after an out-of-character one-night stand leaves her questioning her past, her present, and her future, Alice throws herself into the hunt for answers . . . and revenge.

This is a story about life—
how it ends, and how it starts.

Editorial Review

What grows when you bury the bones
Some listens just leave you quiet, with nothing but the sound of your heartbeat filling the space. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil did exactly that. It’s beautiful and painful and so full of longing: for freedom, for love, for a life that feels like your own. Told across three timelines, the story is layered and intimate, with characters whose lives twist around each other in ways that are heartbreaking, brilliant, and just a little toxic (okay, okay, a lot toxic). Self-care looked like not hitting pause—because when I did, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin bring it all to life with performances that flow together as seamlessly as the stories of María, Charlotte, and Alice. I finished it and just kept thinking: WOW, this is truly something special. —Patty R., Audible Editor

The writing is exceptional, the story is spellbinding, the characters bewitching, and the prose is intoxicating.
This is the vampire book we have all anxiously desired, but nothing quenched the bite until now.
Bury Our Bones is truly the nocturnal read of the year. I'm surprised it didn't release in Autumn, as it screams out for a warm cup of tea, a chilly evening, and a pile of blankets while reading. That being said, I wouldn't recommend waiting for fall to read it- as it is utterly delightful, instead just pick it back up and re-read it again (which yes, is what I shall be doing).

This is Schwab at her best, her most and her finest. <3

To say it was delicious is to put it too mildly. Have fun devouring it.

This honestly leaves me out of my mind excited for what is coming in Victorious. I fear with how limitless her recent works have become- that it will probably be the death of me. I will burry myself in the midnight soil until Victor and Eli call my name.

Verdict- Morbidly Exhilarating- 6 out of 5 fangs

Exceedingly well written. Some people may think it drags on a bit but I’m the type of person who enjoys being immersed in a character’s story so the length and time spent with the characters was a positive to me. If you’re an adult lesbian who had a minor obsession with the Twilight series as a teenager (me), then this book definitely scratches that itch. However, this book is - in my opinion - far superior to Twilight in terms of prose, but also especially in the ways it comments on morality and relationships. The ending of this novel was extremely satisfying to me. I won’t spoil anything. But honestly I was wondering how the author would tie this all up and it exceeded my expectations. The narrators were all great as well. It took some time for me to get used to the Scottish narrator because she goes up in tone at the end of each sentence as if everything she says is a question (at least that’s what it sounded like to my American ears), but it grew on me and I thoroughly enjoyed it by the end.

If you have ever been personally victimized by a toxic and/or murderous lesbian this might be just the book for you!

This book is absolutely incredible. 2nd book of hers I have read. Her books read like poetry, I could listen to them over and over I think. They make me feel heavy in my humanity..an odd feeling and yet visceral. She is truly exquisite.

I think that the audiobooks bring the books to life more so than reading it. I found each character so interesting and I am a sucker for a good vampire story. Excellent listen!

Amazing storytelling, through three different POVs and beautifully tied together. The narrators were perfect for the three main characters.
