Resumen del Editor

Nestled deep in the sleepy heart of Enumclaw - a little town in Washington state - Hedy Leckermaul owns a bakery renowned for its strange, sugary confections. Unbeknownst to the town, she also hosts mysterious visitors. Hedy, Adelaide the ghost, and Hedy's menagerie of animals, offer a place of safety to Enumclaw's supernatural travelers. Life in the little town in the shadow of Mount Rainier may appear picturesque, but things are often not as they seem.

Peace and tranquility rarely last, and it isn't long before arson and abduction rock the friendly town, turning the bakery's world upside down. Hedy must think fast when one of her own is now in danger. She has to solve the mystery before it is too late - seconds count before you are burned to a crisp.

Truly a Paranormal Cozy Mystery!

Things I loved:
-K. A. Miltimore's writing is very easy to get into. No pushing through weird POV shifts, no weird sentence structure.
-The book opens with an exciting scene to get your interest.
-The narrator, Katrina Holmes, did an excellent job creating a huge variety of characters and accents for this story!
-It was a perfect length - not too long, but not too short. It felt like it was just the right length!
-The baked goods...oh my goodness, the creativity and detail there! Fantastic.
-Talking animals - I mean, who doesn't love that in a paranormal story?
If you're looking for a listen with unique and fascinating characters, a clean writing style, and the start to a great series - try this one!

This is a layer cake of a story

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
The story is a construction of layers, like a cake. The ingredient list is made up of legends, myths, fairy tales, pieces taken from history, acceptance, diversity and discovery. The author carefully assembles all the needed elements of this story into a confection that can leave the readers sweet tooth totally satisfied.

I know this isn't your "normal" review. That was my point in writing it this way. I didn't want to give the story away. I hate reading a review and the writer fills it with spoilers.

I hope my description is enough to grab your attention and go for a taste test of the book

Engaging all around

This story is unique and engaging. Hetty and hey menagerie make food wonderful hosts that protect their guests completely. I highly recommend this story for anyone looking for a light mystery with fantastical twists.

Fantastic Supernatural Mystery

I absolutely loved this book! It was so interesting. I thought it was going to be a cozy mystery, but I was oh so wrong and I’m glad I was. It had great characters, a fabulous narrator, and an alternate world that was so fascinating. I want to be a Waystation owner now! I am definitely going to listen to the next book in the series and I hope there are more to come. I also feel like Heddy has a great backstory that would make for another fantastic series. I received this book for free at my request from Audiobook Boom in exchange for my honest opinion. My opinion is get the book and enjoy it as much as I did!

Very Good beginning for a new supernatural mystery series

I did enjoy this story but it wasn’t what I was expecting from the description. With the mention of talking animals, odd named baked goods and cozy mystery, I was expecting something more lighthearted. With the wide array of supernatural mixed with humans this seemed more like an urban fantasy story especially with the greek goddess of rage enters the formerly sleepy little town. I did like the baker and all her friends, supernatural human and animal snd this 1st story was a great set up for a new series.
Katrina Holmes did a fantastic job narrating this book. Each character’s voice was distinctive and she greatly added to my enjoyment of the story.
I was given this book at my request in exchange for an honest review

Gingerbread Hag Goodness 🖤

I read this before I had the opportunity to (read it with my ears)! Hedy and her menagerie, especially, Maurice, had already stolen my heart! Now that I have listened to this wonderous tale all I can say is, WOW! Listening to this story really gave the characters life. The audible allowed me to see how close, or not, I was in my own imagination of who I thought they all really were. K.A. Miltimore has done an amazing job in bringing this magical shop, and it's inhabitants to life! Adelaide is a character that I hope we get to see more of, and learn more about who she was, what powers she has, and why she can't, or, doesn't leave the bakery. The story ends with a slight cliff hanger, and all I can say is, I cannot wait to read the 2nd book! My hat is off to you, K.A. Miltimore! Brava 🤗

Burned to a crisp

Loved it!Hedy owns a bakery that makes odd shaped treats.Normal people tend to go someplace that doesn't have rat shaped cookies. Her house also serves as a way station for beings that aren't all human. She has a curmudgeonly neighbor who may be more trouble than she thinks.Fires are breaking out all over, could one of Hedys friends be responsible? Katrina Holmes was the perfect narrator.I look forward to more from this series! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Magical Mystery

Hedy owns and operates a bakery/magical stopover for charmed creatures. She has magic of her own but herself is not magical, she more possesses magical objects and has a unique view of life. She has talking animals and a resident ghost and some new guests, one who is basically fire and another who is water. When fires begin to break out and women go missing suspicion and mistrust abound. Is it a guest committing these crimes? Hedy will need to find out if she wants to protect her livelihood and friends. A very magical fun mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I look forward to more in the series. Also very well narrated, accents were spot on! I received a free review copy of this book and have voluntarily left this review.

3.5 for story, 5 for narration

This was pretty good, if not quite to my tastes. It does depend heavily on being quirky and cute, with the main character just being the sweetest lil thing you could imagine. *Insert eye roll.* Maybe it was the way she was voiced, but for all the world she reminded me of Ms. Frizzle, from The Magic School Bus. I’m not so much into the nice-nice protagonists, with their utter lack of grey, which the heroine and all the good guys here are. Despite that I do appreciate that the book is well-structured (though the pace sags in the middle a little), there’s a pleasant little FF side romance, the mystery isn’t blatantly obvious (though not too hard to figure out either), I liked the characters themselves, and the narrator did a fine job. All in all, I might read another Gingerbread Hag Mystery, but I’m in no rush about it.

Note: I had a free Audible code for this book. However, I chose to listen and review it.
