Resumen del Editor

Lost in a world no longer her own.

Laraya Jamison is a young woman on a camping trip with close friends before the start of college classes. When they are savagely attacked by a creature that defies description, she flees into the woods, unknowingly crossing through a breach between realities.

She must figure out where she is and how she got there in order to get home, but her survival depends on fighting monsters and demons that seem to have been ripped directly from her nightmares.

Lost in a dark world full of creatures, hostile plant life, and a banshee intent on hunting her, she must learn to confront her fears and figure out how to survive on her own.

With only a curious group of insects to aid her, she battles her way through this new world, but will she survive long enough to discover the truth behind her new reality?

Impressive debut...

Really imaginative and well written fantasy with some heavy doses of horror and a bit of cosmic overtones as well. I'd never have seen the end coming, what all was happening. Nola does a fantastic job of playing it close to the chest until near the end with several well-timed reveals. The narrator does a terrific job, I'd definitely listen to her some more. Not in the realm of what I normally read, but I'm very glad to finally have checked this one out. Terrific. Give it a shot.

So Many Words of Praise for this Dark Fantasy...

Where to begin with this review? Let's start with the fantastic job of the voice actor breathing life in this story. She did a great job interpreting the highly impressive description of the author. Leading into the deception. Let's just say they are great. This is a First Person story done well. The author doesn't miss a beat ensuring the audience sees, feels, smells, etc. exactly what the protagonist does. The first thing that caught me was the imagery laid out by the author. If you can't see other stories in your head this one you will. Beyond the imagery is the actual story. The author wastes no time with setups. You are pulled into the "fantasy" in a matter of minutes. From there you learn about the world with the author and not told about it. Creatures unlike any I've known appear to help and hurt the character. All serve the purpose of bringing the protagonist to a point where she can face her point of trauma. This book is a fantastic standalone or you can venture to the second book which I see in my future.

Good dark fantasy story

A good mix of horror and dark fantasy. I really did enjoy listening to the narrator.

The Places Imagination Can Carry You...

Candace Nola's Breach drags us along with Laraya Jamison into a disorienting and terrifying battle for survival in a world alien from our own. The gradual revelation of a world that feels as fantastic and dreamlike as it is sinister and dangerous is a thrilling adventure for readers/listeners, even as beleaguered Laraya struggles to learn the rules of this new world and means to find her way home.
A camping trip with her boyfriend and two closest friends descends into a violent and horrific disaster as a creature defying comprehension slaughters the others, forcing Laraya into an exhausting race for her life through a forest that transitions into something unfamiliar. Growing up in these woods, she knows she's far from home, but Laraya has no idea how she arrived in this strange place or how to return to the world she knows.
Laraya's journey of discovery through this new world is equal parts fantasy and horror. The true journey is of self-discovery as she learns of her connection to this realm and the extraordinary allies in her battle against monstrous beings who seek to destroy her or follow her through the breach and back to our world.
Jessica McEvoy's narration brings Laraya to life, filling the character's account of events with emotion that conveys the harrowing nature of her experiences.

Brilliantly written horror / dark fantasy

Excellent horror / dark fantasy novel with a likeable and determined main protagonist. Candace has a way with words and easily paints a picture of a beautiful, yet nightmarish world inhabited by wonderfully imaginative, yet frightfully fierce creatures. The story starts out at breakneck pace. Captures and effortlessly holds your interest in the middle. Then finishes with a bang that will leave you wanting more.

Fantastic!

Fantasy and world building can be hit or miss from me, but Breach by @cnola.author is definitely a hit. The world building and fantastical creatures in this story were so well done. This is a must read for fans of stories that are Horror/Fantasy hybrid. I will definitely be diving into the sequel soon!

Hits the Ground Running!

Literally hits the ground running as the heroine finds her fellow campers torn apart on the site and she has to run and hide from the killer. But this killer is not what you might expect. As the first-person narrator finds refuge in a tunnel of trees, she soon realizes that she's in an entirely different - and maybe even more hostile - world. Breach is a dark fantasy with strong elements of horror woven throughout (think: Clive Barker style). Nola is a terrific writer who goes into great detail, while McEvoy's on-point cadence will have you listening to "just 5 more minutes..."
