As a native Chicagoan who grew up in the city and worked across the street from City Hall, where I would occasionally see Daley the younger, it brought back memories. This book is a tale of a large metropolis that is just a collection of neighborhoods. Even today, my hometown has the shadow of Richard J. Daley hovering over it, casting a large shadow. I am on a city council in another state. I read this book as a reminder of what not to do as a public servant. During his tenure, Mayor Daley built many things in Chicago. He did some good and terrible things, too. This book looks at everything: the good, the bad, and everything in between! Mike Royko's book is outstanding study on the life of the man and it is well worth the read.

Liked the way information was presented and the oral presentation. It is eye opening how easily demagogues can take over a city.

So this is the Royko I’ve heard so much about. This book should be required reading for every Chicagoan. A compelling story well told by the finest in journalism. To the point, clear, compelling about one of the most influential figures in Chicago history.
