Ricky

My double life is crumbling around me. Denying who I am isn’t fair on anyone: the girls I tried so hard to date, the guys I’m too afraid to flirt with, or my family who don’t know the truth. I’m afraid of coming out to my mom - but if I don’t, I’ll remain in fear that she’ll find out from someone else. I’m torn between expectation and truth, and I’m not sure I can keep hiding behind a cocky grin.

I’m not ready for the gorgeous guy who challenges me in my own diner. His every word turns me on, and I’m drawn to him like a moth to flame, but if I get so close that anyone finds out, we’re both going to end up burned.

Cedar

I’m too clumsy to hold onto anything good. Everything I touch breaks, and now I’m dependent on my ex’s good graces. He runs our urban gardening charity, and his dad pays my rent. I do the dirty work, which is all I’m good for: I dig holes and plant seeds. Standing up for myself feels impossible, so I start easy. At least, it was supposed to be.

The cocky cook who couldn’t crisp up my bacon sure crisped up my sausage. Everyone knows closeted guys are a risk, and I’m great at scaring people away. But Ricky gives me the strength to be me, and I can’t stop falling for him. Not even chipped Brooklyn sidewalks can stop true love blooming.

Boiling Point is book three in the Brooklyn Boys series, where good men find their happily ever afters in a hectic metropolis. It has an HEA and no cliffhanger. There will be awkward first times, cops at the door, hiding in thrift store racks, a trouble-making bouquet, a mama’s boy coming home, and an uncontrolled flame.

Cedar is that character that you fall instantly in love with and want to bring home and surround him with all the caring and support he can stand while supporting his independence and choices. Ricky is one that is struggling to figure out exactly who he is and worries about how his family will support him. As these two forge a friendship then more, you will be pulled into their struggles and happiness so fast you won't realize it. Another incredibly touching and emotional story.

Cedar is my favorite!

I loved listening to this book, it was just so down to earth. How Ricky accepts Cedar' s Cerebal Palsy and makes adjustments to make it easier on him. Wanted to punch Nathan's lights out for the way he treated him. Hope they have have the family they want. Highly recommend

I'd give this a 3.5, rounded up to 4. I liked the plot, the characters, the addressing of ableism, Cedar's disability and the difficulties with being less severely disabled, but still having to exist in an ableist world, and the narration for the audio. I found the complications with Cedar's ex to be suspenseful, even though some might find it melodramatic, (but I like melodrama). It was good to see characters from the previous books, though not all of them did make an appearance. There were also a couple new side characters who were endearing as well. I also liked that Cedar was pretty clearly described, so far as his appearance. Davies sometimes seems to forget to describe characters beyond their build. (I can't say I had a truly clear impression of what Ricky looked like though.)

What didn't do it for me was what seemed like overdone, repetitive inner monologuing & OTP schmaltz. Nobody can think that much in between sentences in a conversation or during sex. Some of it was good, but some seemed to be just a bit too much. The dialogue between characters was often entertaining, but toward the end seemed, again, a bit too schmaltzy for my cold, jaded heart. They also fell head over heels in a short period of time that could've been extended by several weeks with more dates without the plot needing further alteration. With some of the inner monologuing cut down, it could've even stayed the same length.

That being said, if Davies ever extended the series or had a spin-off with the few characters mentioned who were not paired off, I would definitely continue with it.

As for the narration, Russo did a great job of differentiating characters, expressing emotion, etc. He did pronounce a few words incorrectly, (like cerebral palsy), but his performance otherwise made up for it.

Entertaining, but be prepared for lots of schmaltz

MMy Thoughts and Review:

So, what do a closeted short order chef and an out charities fundraiser have in common? That is easy… bad taste in partners and significant others, and a meet-cute over limp bacon.

Ricky and Cedar are as different as night and day, and that is what gives them so much charm as a couple. As someone who has a disability that isn’t seen at first glance, I was able to relate to Cedar and as this character faced his trials I faced them with him. I felt his injustices with him, but I also rejoiced in his happiness with him. It was wonderful.

I adored Ricky the more the story developed, and he and Cedar got to know each other. Their relationship was so sweet to me and I absolutely absorbed all the emotions as they floated out of the book and into my heart.

Russo as always did a wonderful job breathing life into Davies’ characters. Davies is already a one-click author for me, and even if I have read their eBooks, I STILL get the audios when they are released, because reliving those stories is always a joy, and the 2nd time around I get human voices instead of humanoid through TTS, and that RAWKS! 🎧📚🎧
