Acerca de esta escucha

It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to deck out her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. Weezie is ready to shoot herself with her glue gun by the time she's done, but the results are stunning. She's certainly one-upped the owners of the trendy shop around the corner.

But suddenly things start to go missing from her display, and there seems to be an uninvited midnight visitor to her shop. Still, Weezie has high hopes for the holiday, maybe in the form of an engagement ring from her chef boyfriend. But Daniel, always moody at the holidays, seems more distant than usual.

Throw in Weezie's decidedly odd family, a mysterious 1950s Christmas-tree pin, and even a little help from the King himself (Elvis, that is), and maybe there will be a pocketful of miracles for Weezie this Christmas Eve.

Reseñas editoriales

Isabel Keating's voice shines in her portrayal of characters who engage in a holiday shop-decorating contest in Savannah, Georgia. Keating's voice reflects antiques dealer Weezie Foley's enthusiasm as she embraces the task of decorating her store in a 1950s' theme. As Weezie makes holiday plans with boyfriend Daniel, her voice is tinged with humor, a tone that contrasts well with his deep, pragmatic tones. Weezie's neighbor, a fellow shop owner in the historic district, has a clear, distinctive Hispanic accent, complete with a touch of smugness that expresses his conviction that he will win the decorating contest. Keating's diction remains crisp and clear, even as she provides many of her characters with lilting Southern accents.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Andrews...nails idiosyncratic Southern charm and teases out a touching denouement." (Publishers Weekly)
"Andrews gives her readers what they have come to expect from her, along with some new twists, in this funny, funky Christmas story." (Booklist)

Name change of Baybay to Bebe was disappointing as the first book went into detail of why she had the name. Loved the first book and couldn’t wait for others however I don’t believe I will try anymore of them especially if the person reading it is the same. She doesn’t fake southern accent well.

Changes are not good

Lousy Narration. Why narrate something when you cannot pronounce the word Christmas. What's with the music? Good story, read the book.

After listening to Savannah Blues, the first book of this series, I was enchanted by the characters and couldn't wait to listen to more. However, this book was not read by Susan Erickson who developed the original voices and did a magnificent job. In my opinion, when a narrator starts a series and does a wonderful job she/he should continue with the rest of the series using the original voices. I won't listen to any more of this series unless Susan Erickson is the narrator. Too bad because I love the story.

Narration ruined it for me.

Cheery Christmas tale with intrigue, family & friends and chaos! All that is required to wrap your arms around a mug of Christmas “feelings”...

If you could sum up Blue Christmas in three words, what would they be?

Love this story...I have listened to it 3yrs in a row @ Christmastime. It's great to get me in the mood for a southern holiday season!

Cute!

I packed my ipod with lots of Christmas enjoyment and this book was one of my choices. I enjoyed it very much. It was light and sweet and perfect with a cup of coffee, a pair of scissors, a wee bit of tape, and presents to wrap. This was the perfect book for the moment: what more can you ask?

The book was good, but the narrator was horrible. Awful fake Southern accent. To make it worse, she pronounced Bebe's name wrong which grated on my nerves, and the name of the restaurant wrong too. The narrators for the previous books in the series were fantastic. Who decided to change it up? It was definitely a bad choice. Also - the music is just cringe worthy.

The Narrator was AWFUL

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would change the narrator.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator spoiled this book. Bebe (with long a's)--the main character's best friend from the first Savannah book--became BEE BEE. The characters in this southern book did not have southern accents...not even poor ones. All the male characters sounded alike and female characters did not have consistent voices. I would love to buy more Mary Kay Andrew's audio books, but not when Ms. Keating is the narrator.

Was Blue Christmas worth the listening time?

I could not enjoy the story of this book because the narration was so poor.

Any additional comments?

I loved Savannah Blues and was excited to find this sequel. Unfortunately, I did not believe the narrator reviews. Does the author have no input on who narrates her stories. Can't believe, if she did, that Ms. Keating would have narrated so many of her books.
