Kuba is a cocaine dealer in the dark, electric streets of Warsaw, believing he is smart enough to stay in control, unlike the top lawyers, doctors, and TV personalities who are his client base.

However, after calling in the debt of a failing nightclub owner, breaking his own rules on other people’s property, and being caught in the consequences of his clients’ actions, all control starts to slip from his grasp.

Now suffering under the glare of the spotlight and getting dragged into the dark underbelly of the drug world, Kuba must find a way through the middle of the whirlwind of violence and betrayal sweeping him away.

there's really no reason I should have liked this. Kuba is a massive jerk with an ego bigger than Warsaw and a way of monologing that seems to never end. Everything is violent, nihilistic, and selfish with everyone involved.

And yet it was absolutely brilliant.

The narrator brings the monologing to a new level, and when Kuba's very careful control starts slipping is when the narrator really starts to shine. As he loses grip with the situation and himself, I found it almost impossible to put down (one must sleep or they end up like Kuba). And the ending is bitterly predictable but in a way where you know it's going to happen but your hope, along with his, just needs to he crushed in the final page.

Dark, Gritty, and Gripping
