Brotherhood and becoming
Wow. This is a meditation on the relationship between family and creating -- the author lays out the way that making music brings together but also drives apart his family. The narrator has the impossible task of tempering the manic energy of his brother and by extension his father. It also paints a beautiful picture of life in a band.
The author's voice a so direct- he draws a complicated family in felt terms. For me, he explained the terms of engagement with family very close to the bone. The fractured chronology of the books makes for a fast, angular read. Finally, if you know the Natural History you totally have to read this.
