Just okay
After the hype I thought I would enjoy listening to the whole series. Halfway through this book I knew I wouldn’t. Hope you enjoy it more than I did.

Pleasantly surprised
I was prepared not to like the narration after reading some reviews but I found only one problem with it. Sometimes I just couldn’t understand it. The story was intriguing, even though I usually don’t enjoy books that feature a woman dressed as a man. I will listen again at some point which I consider the mark of an enjoyable audio book.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles retold
After recognizing the plot from the classic Agatha Christie novel early in the book I skipped to the last 2 chapters to assure I really did recognize the plot. I’m disappointed.

Good enough mystery, horrible reader
The story and characters are quite good but the read is the worst I think I have dver heard. I thought initially she might be trying to emulate low class English people who don’t know common French expressions. But she even mispronounced “wan.” It quickly was “fingernails on the chalkboard” painful to finish.

Story is not bad
I can't get past the narration, it was so monotone, I will buy the book but I won't listen to another story read by Niki Delgado... sorry...

I wanted to like it...
The premise of the book is a good idea but as I listened to more and more of the story it became very clear that it is merely a facade. The author took the first Hercule Poirot mystery by Agatha Christie, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and tweeked it to her needs. She introduces a female protagonist who has just as many abilities as the great Poirot, yet she seems to acquire them in a miraculously short period of time and amazingly, has a photographic memory.
I'm all for the amazing investigator who has propensities for solving puzzles none can understand but I need to at least be able to believe it a little bit.
This story felt far too slip-shod to be believed, in large part as it wasn't her own work. And that, is the true crime.
I will not be reading more of this author.

This narrator is annoying.
The narrator has an awful tone to her voice. It’s annoying.
I would never read anything narrated by Trista Shay again.
Mispronunciations abound in her narrative as well.
I listen to a lot of Audiobooks.
I’ve never heard a narrator as bad as this!

Plagiarism
It only took ma a couple of chapters, once Fiona got to Ravenswick, to realize the entire murder story is the same as the Murder at Styles by Agatha Christie. Of course the characters and names are different, she added a few twists, but the murder story is exactly the same as the one Agatha Christie wrote back in 1920. I probably would not have realized it, but I recently started rereading Agatha Christie and had just finished it, maybe 2 books back. Hercule Poirot was the famous detective who solved it back then.
If I knew how to bring this to the attention of Dame Agatha’s heirs, I would!
And Kelly Oliver had the nerve to mention Agatha Christie in the book. Shameful!
