When Appalachian Trail thru-hiker Lydia Manzo becomes lost in the woods of Maine and then found dead, it sets off a chain of events that upsets the fragile peace of Redimere, Maine. Realistic cozy mystery

This is a fast paced realistic cozy mystery with engaging characters. No one is perfect and the mystery isn't solved in two weeks. The plot is complex with several twists and turns. I enjoyed the sloe development of Bernie's and Pete's relationship. I look forward to the next book.

I like the narrator! She does so many voices ! wow

A solid story with really good narration

This is the first Maureen Milliken novel I've read, and I enjoyed it very much. Bernie O'Dea, the story's lead, is a strong, realistic, character. Her career as a reporter is more of a backdrop to this story than an integral part of it, but the life of a small-town reporter was very true-to-life, based on my own experience. The pace was good and the murder motive and method were surprising, The narrator's (Trudi Knoedler) ability to inject real emotion into her performance, and to alter her voice to differentiate the characters added a lot to my enjoyment, When "read" means "listen" as is the case with an audiobook, not having to stop, rewind, and try to figure out who is talking was much appreciated!
