Howden goal in OT gives VGK a 3-2 series lead

  • Resumen

  • Brett Howden's overtime goal Tuesday gave the Golden Knights a 3-2 series lead and VGK can wrap up the best-of-seven in Minnesota Thursday. Howden scored the game winner on a backhanded pass from Tanner Pearson. Howden was left alone in the slot and beat goalie Marc-Andre Fleury top shelf for the 3-2 win. Fleury came into the game in relief of Filip Gustavsson to begin the third period after the starting goalie was taken ill. The big play happened late in Game 5 when Ryan Hartman scored the apparent go-ahead goal. First Toronto looked to see if Hartman kicked the goal into the net. They said there was no kicking motion into the net by Hartman. Next, VGK challenged the play for offside. Gustav Nyquist was indeed offside and the goal was negated. Jack Eichel and Mark Stone got into the scoring column, as Bruce Cassidy jumbled the lines. Eichel had two assists, including one on a Mark Stone goal, his first of the series. We also talk about the trust Cassidy had in rolling his fourth line in overtime, which resulted in the Howden goal.
