I thought there would be a little more revealed in this book but I’m either wrong about my guesses or it is yet to come. This was a great read and I’m excited to see what the next book is going to be about.

This was laugh-out-loud funny

The FMC is such a troll and I’m all here for it. I didn’t like dumb and weak heroines, and this heroine trips all the time, she can’t even walk straight for 5 full seconds for some reason. But at some point, it was something that I got used to, and so did the 5 MMCs. I really liked all of them and their gifts/talents. There were too many scenes or FMC’s ramblings than I can count that I laughed out loud. She was so damn funny. The only thing I didn’t like is the way the narrator voices the males. It was so cringe - I kept hearing Cookie Monster’s voice and I would have enjoyed it more if she voiced them better. So on that note, I’ll be jumping into the 2nd book, but I’ll just be reading it (instead or buying the audiobook, since I can’t afford to listen to Cookie Monster’s voice again lol).

I Enjoyed the world building, the changes of the landscapes, and the story telling. The characters are very wonderful.

This story is fun so far. It’s got a unique concept, and the characters are a lot of fun. I thought Willa was would get on my nerves, but so far, I find her funny, enduring and witty. The guys all have something special about them, but I don’t feel like we really got to know them a whole lot individually yet. I am excited to find out more and get deeper into this world. I would like some more world building and depth to understand things more. But so far this is a really fun series!

Why is this series the gold standard?

Supposedly 'Curse of the Gods' has been a gateway drug into the RH academy trope for a ton of people. It even has its own acronym on message boards. Smdh. WHY???????? I can only assume it has targeted a young, undiscerning audience, because folks it's garbage. G-A-R-B-A-G-E.

The whole thing is written with a microscope. Zooming in on the minutia and pointless conversations of every scene. I wanted to scream at the lack of sweeping plot and big picture thinking. And that ridiculous klutz of a heroine (Willa)... SHEER TORTURE. It reminded me of (the few) books I've read where the writer decides to create a language or write out a dialect phonetically, and the reader is forced to basically learn greek just wade through the story. Every single scene was distracted by this fool tripping, or falling, or bumbling (or even better reminiscing about tripping, falling and bumbling). It's lazy visionless writing, plain and simple.

Plot: nothing happens. Willa is a "Sol" aka a lowly citizen (really an indentured servant). Off page she scams an invitation to go to an elite academy with her (smart, actually deserving) sister. There they become maids to the actual students. Then Willa catches the eye of a group of revered Demi-gods with a secret agenda. That's the whole plot. There's not even sex yet. Book 2 can kiss my 🍑.
