When modern-day Earth suddenly finds itself on the losing end of that proposition, a team of the world's best scientists is put together to find a solution. Of course the advanced society being friendly, Earth's citizens uniting, and the world's politicians working together for the common good would help tremendously, but...what if none of that were true?

Pretty good Sci-Fi

This is a tremendous story that is weighed down a little by the over the top sexual exploits of the main characters. The concept is great, the story woven around it is cool, there's lots of big ideas about future technology and the idea of freedom. There is a lot of sophomoric sexual prowess, but it's not graphic or in your face. This is not the best book I've ever read, but it's benefits outweigh it's detriments.

Enough unanswered questions for many books.

Good story with lots of interesting twists. Plenty of unanswered questions to spawn a series. Excellent narration.

Disappointing.

Some good science, and thought-provoking speculation, but it seems to have been written with the mindset of a hormone-driven adolescent boy.

Charlie Sheen goes to space.

Very interesting and engaging narrative. The main character is portrayed as a some kind of satirical sex god genius soldier scientist. it is not satirical.

It was ok but nothing to really get you interested and the same old one hero to win for the earth team. Not interested in more by writer. Narration was good.

Even though there is a lot of "explanation,"" talking " filing, I did like this book.

Great story. Hard to follow.

This was a really good story. Could have been more character development, but the story made up for it. What made this 4 instead of 5 star was that it was hard to follow who was talking. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the narration, that was the problem. Maybe both. I'm going to buy the next book in the series, so I did like it.

Interesting premise.

Enjoyed this book. If the narrator had distinguished between some of the male voices I think it would of made the overall story a little better to comprehend.

Solid Story, but sexist male lead overplayed

Loved the idea of exploring our approach to first contact, including if it went wrong. Also appreciated the world building. Outdated male character was overplayed. It eventually became a distraction.
