Acerca de esta escucha
If you love David Sedaris, you'll have to listen to Marion Winik's anything-but-traditional tales of traveling with her cranky family in tow. From lost teenagers and missed connections to overpriced drinks and gambling mishaps, Winik - author of seven memoirs and a Morning Edition commentator on NPR - illuminates the unexpected pleasures of journeying out of your comfort zone.
Ranging from Paris to Peru, from New Orleans to Uganda to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, these travel essays are full of life, humor, and humanity. Whether you're hitting the road solo or with loved ones trailing behind, you'll want these before you set out.
Marion Winik is the author of the new memoir Highs in the Low Fifties: How I Stumbled Through the Joys of Single Living. It joins Telling, First Comes Love, The Lunch-Box Chronicles, The Glen Rock Book of the Dead, and others in the ongoing saga of her life, now seven volumes. She writes a column at BaltimoreFishbowl.com, reviews books for Newsday, and contributes to the Sun and many other magazines. She has appeared on the Today show, Oprah, and Politically Incorrect; was a commentator on NPR's All Things Considered for 15 years; and was the Answer Lady for Ladies' Home Journal. These days she is a professor in the MFA creative writing program at the University of Baltimore and lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with a couple of her kids and a miniature dachshund.
This is a short audiobook published by Shebooks - high-quality fiction, memoir, and journalism for women, by women.

While he's not quite a household name, most people would consider H. Jon Benjamin, the voice-actor star of Archer and Bob's Burgers (and a sentient can of mixed vegetables in 2015's Wet Hot American Summer) a comedy show business success. But he'd like to remind everyone that as great as success can be, failure is also an option. In a hilarious, self-deprecating memoir, Jon lays out some of his many failures in all areas of life, from Work ("wherein I'm unable to deliver a sizzling fajita") to Family ("wherein a trip to PF Chang's fractures a family").

If the story doesn’t end with marriage or a child, what then? This question plagued Glynnis MacNicol on the eve of her 40th birthday. Despite a successful career as a writer, and an exciting life in New York City, Glynnis was constantly reminded she had neither of the things the world expected of a woman her age: a partner or a baby. She knew she was supposed to feel bad about this. After all, single women and those without children are often seen as objects of pity. Glynnis refused to be cast into either of those roles and yet the question remained: What now?

Some people are meant to travel the globe, to unwrap its secrets, and share them with the world. And some people have no sense of direction, are terrified of pigeons, and get motion sickness from tying their shoes. These people are meant to stay home and eat nachos. Geraldine DeRuiter is the latter. But she won't let that stop her. Hilarious, irreverent, and heartfelt, All over the Place chronicles the years Geraldine spent traveling the world after getting laid off from a job she loved.

In his instant New York Times best-selling book Do You Mind If I Cancel?, Gary Janetti had us all in stitches as he recounted the pains and indignities of everyday life in the way only he can. Now, in Start Without Me, Janetti returns with a hilarious collection about how sometimes the things we most want to get done and over with are the ones that define us for a lifetime. Gary turns his acid tongue (and secretly beating heart) to the moments and times that have defined him, no matter how embarrassing or annoying they might be to admit.

Would be better without the narrator
The narrator made the author sound like a bitter, joyless shrew. Once I realized she was not reading her own book/experiences, I was slightly more forgiving of the pronunciation flubs. Silver lining = very short.

Thank Goodness It’s Only 6 Chapters!!
I chose the book because I like Paris. The story line isn’t horrible if you don’t mind listening to something that sounds like it would make a really great customer service complaint. However, I found the reading overly excited, which felt exhausting at times and not very suitable for bedtime listening. Fortunately, it’s only six chapters
