In a future where humans are enhanced to ensure the survival of society Akaego fights to prevent her power to grow plants from being weaponised by a corrupt regime.

In a near future London, where extreme weather has depleted plant life, sixteen-year-olds must surgically augment an ability to contribute to the new utopian society. Akaego moves to a prestigious academy after the late discovery of her rare ability - she can project a vocal frequency that accelerates plant growth.

As Akaego learns to use her new skill and is chosen for an internship with the mayor she begins to feel like she can change society for the better . . . and it doesn't hurt that the mayor's gorgeous son, Joon, seems to be flirting with her. But then the Freestakers, an anti-enhancement group, warn Akaego not to get Augmented.

Can she discover the truth of her ability, find the courage to rebel and keep her power out of the hands of those wishing to control it?

Well written with interesting characters.

While the idea of England becoming a desert wasteland is a bit over the top, the story is well formed and kept me listening. The reader was excellent and I could see and hear each character in my head. The interplay of freedom and government is also interesting and timely. A good listen.

Loved the narrator, really good voice to listen to. The story was easy to follow along to. looking forward to more books from the author.

A story to lose yourself in while holding readers in the tradition of fantasy for inspiring nobility of action , and the sense of possibility . The opportunities only tangible in a fantasy world are given a reality all their own here in a world listeners will both recognize and long for at once.
Lawson has accomplished cultural inclusion without the uncredited cultural pilaging of beliefs too often resulting from these efforts .

Entertaining, clean teen SciFi

This is a great teen post apocalyptic SciFi. The narrator did an excellent job! I look forward to reading more from this author.

Good SciFi like Augmented teaches without a bludgeon.

Augmented does what good scifi does, holds a mirror ro today. It is an excellent depiction of the hard choices YAs are facing in these turbulent times.
