Nature VS Nurture ?

German twins are separated at birth. They are each adopted by separate families. One raised in a Jewish household , the other in a Christian family. They meet later in life after learning they have a twin. The differences are immediately evident , of course . But what is interesting are the similarities. I loved everything about this book. I had no favorite character, as I believe all were very good and kind people. The narration was very well suited for this book. Even those who are not into WWII stories will enjoy this book, as that is definitely not the focus of this book. Would recommend to everyone. At God's Mercy gives you hope that different religious beliefs need not lead to hatred as long as their beliefs are for mankind.

Listening as I type this..

The narrator has a good voice for audio books, but so far, it's kind of flat; maybe ...it will get better. Is there such a thing as a group of narrators, like a radio show? Later on this book

I liked the personal accounts shared by the author, but did not care for the little transition before delving into the various characters lives

Riveting!

Soon riveted to the twists and turns. Not a book I could listen to while doing something else. I found myself rewinding and relistening.

Phenomenal

An amazing book. Beyond anything I could hand.anticipated. I don't know if it is based in a true story, but I can see it being so. Strongly demonstrates the extremes of which mankind is capable. Strongly demonstrates the goodness of mankind. Strongly demonstrates the role of a Higher Power (whatever your faith may be) in our lives. Excellent writing and performance. Thank you!

Great book!

Very much enjoyed this book. Not your typical story either which I very much liked. The whole twins separated and adopted by two seperate families one Jewish and one Christian is interesting. The fact that both grow up to be leaders of their religion is also different. To have them meet again 52 yr late and deal with not only their shared separation issues but then their issues of whether they are truly Jewish or Christian from birth and what does that mean? Oh that had me. I am Christian and worked in a synagogue for many years and I found our differences to be at times very hard. So this book was very interesting indeed. Very much enjoyed it. Wish we could have had more on his older daughters back ground childhood dreams and their disconnect over her joining the army. As well as more back ground on both but that's just me. Just a lot of information not given us and we are left to guess at. Still a good story. I received this book free of charge in order to give an honest review.

Wanted more detail

Want to read the book hoping it clears up some of the implausible events & actions of the main characters. Interesting as enjoy history but reader should know, left me with questions but no answers

A Tale of Two Stories

Started out well and bogged down. Went off on a rabbit trail and became a boring conversation.

Weak story, weak characters

When I started listening to this I figured it would be pretty good. Not long into it, though, I started picking up on anti-Christian bias and strong pro-Jewish sentiment. As if the moral character of the main Jewish protagonist was all that great - this was someone who disowned his own daughter for the "horrible" offense of not thinking like him and choosing a non-Jewish man for her significant other. The characters overall were stereotypical and weak/one-dimensional, lacking any depth or connection with the reader. The overall plot would have been more interesting if it had been written better and if the characters were more interesting. And the ending ... I don't even know what to say about it, it was so poorly written and came out of nowhere for what - to make some sort of point? Well, the point was lost on me. The author said in the "Epilogue" (which, really should have been titled "Author's Note" instead) that the story wrote itself. With how weak this story is in writing and content, it does seem that way. I don't get the amount of four or five star reviews for this on Amazon, because they're not an accurate reflection of this overall quality of the book. The narration was about the same, not all that great - mostly during the exposition moments. When he was performing the character's voices, he wasn't too bad, but overall it just felt ... wooden.

Would I recommend this book? No, not really. Unless you like weak plots and weak or boring characters.
