Fans of the Hallmark Channel and Gilmore Girls will adore this delightful rom‑com about a city girl who goes in search of small-town happiness, only to discover life—and love—are nothing like the TV movies.

Emerging journalist Adina Gellar is done with dating in New York City. If she’s learned anything from made-for-TV romance movies, it’s that she’ll find love in a small town—the kind with harvest festivals, delightful but quirky characters, and scores of delectable single dudes.

So when a big-city real estate magnate targets tiny Pleasant Hollow for development, Adi knows she’s found the perfect story—one that will earn her a position at a coveted online magazine, so she can finally start adulting for real . . . and maybe even find her dream man in the process.

Only Pleasant Hollow isn’t exactly “pleasant". There’s no charming bakery, no quaint seasonal festivals, and the residents are more ambivalent than welcoming.

The only upside is Finn Adams, who’s more mouthwatering than the homemade cherry pie Adi can’t seem to find—even if he does work for the company she’d hoped to bring down. Suddenly Adi has to wonder if the movies got it all wrong.

Will following her heart mean losing her chance to break into the big time?

I was so annoyed with the main character - an immature, needy, naive, idealistic wannabe female writer who thinks life in small towns are accurately represented in Hallmark movies. Her selfishness is astounding. I guess it’s a lesson in how not to behave.

Annoying weak character

Delightful narration! Enjoyed this story and the way it was beautifully told by the narrator!

This story was pretty cute. It had a little spice to it. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

cute book

Not my favorite by far but it was a worthwhile listen if you enjoy cheesy romance novels with a hint of spice. I'm always surprised how many prudes review audiobooks and judge main characters promiscuity. Stick to Austen if you want uptight chaste romance novels

Overall cute and entertaining listen

It’s cute. I got it for $2.99 and it’s what you would expect from a $2.99 book. It a little too close to Gilmore Girls and a Hallmark with an attempt of hitting some real world issues. There was no real resolution. I would probably skip this unless you want a mindless audiobook on in the background.

Cute but mindless

Entertaining story, but I didn’t really like the main character so just 3 stars for me

I've never been a fan of romance novels. They always seem so far fetched and not relatable. The author did an amazing job at creating a plausible modern day romance novel complete with current references from slang and dating apps. It also addressed that part of human nature that stereotypes and believes the grass is greener on the otherside. The voice actor was great for the role. She made me believe she was the main character. I would have thought she was telling her own story, which I guess is the point, so job well done!

Great Modern Romance

I loved how the author had fun with romance movie staples as the main character goes to a small town that has none of the charm of small cities in the movies. Her spirit of determination about the writing assignment that took her there is inspiring. Her man of interest is very appealing, and I liked the slow buildup of what happens between them. The complications on both the work and love fronts enrich the story. Recommended!

Clever, Entertaining Romance

I thought the premise was really cute, but the argument between the two main characters was very frustrating. I guess as a play on the Hallmark movies its inevitable to have a second act misunderstanding, but their actions undermined all the fears that were allayed when they got together.

I did enjoy the narrator's performance and it helped carry me to the end of the story even as I rolled my eyes.

Cute premise, but unlikeable main character

As a Hallmark movies lover, the beginning of this book really hooked me, but then Finn happened and it wasn't great anymore
The story is about Adina who dreams of writing her own article in a magazine where she makes people feels better, but her pitches are always getting refused because there is no soul to them, one day after being stood up by her latest day, she hears about a small town and there is a big corporation planning to build a complex in it, she thinks she will step into a hallmark movie set (and maybe get the small town most eligible bachelor to fall in love with her ) but what she gets is a town that is nothing like the warm small towns in the movies and Finn, a city boy who is not interested in long term relationships ..
even on paper the story looks good, but the relationship between Adina and Finn was really weird for me .. I mean, there was barely any depth to their relationship beyond the bedroom stuff, even she admitted that .. the grand gesture was cute but I really wasn't invested in their relationship that much to care

Nice Idea.. Could've Been Better
