Resumen del Editor

This seventh novel in author Diana Gabaldon's immensely popular Outlander saga takes listeners on a thrilling journey to 1777 America.

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife, Claire, that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But fighting for the eventual winner is no guarantee of safety. And worse still, the possibility of pointing a weapon at his own son - a young officer in the British army - haunts Jamie's every thought.

Read all of Gabaldon's stuff before this one

First off, Davina Porter is hands down my favorite voice ever, no contest. I'm tempted to buy other audio she has done just to listen to a masterful voice actress. As far as Echo goes, I enjoyed it as much as any other Outlander book to date. I have an understanding that this feels like a transitional book (because Jamie and Claire can't live forever) but the character development of Roger, Brianna, Jeremiah and William are comforting for a potential new series. The thing I appreciate the most is an extremely long story that has such vivid detail and picks up and answers questions that may have been left in past outlander books. I actually get a little sad when the book is done because I know it will be some time before another new work is released. Thanks Diana and Davina!!

This series is incredible

I love this series of books. I love this narrator. I love that all the books in the series are now available on Audible (there were two in the middle that previously weren't). The Outlander series is what Audible is all about.

The series is the story of a woman who accidentally travels 200 years back in time and meets the love of her life. Whenever I explain this premise to people I get raised eyebrows, but the truth is that the books are more historical fiction than sci fi/fantasy. I read an interview with the author once in which she said she set out to write historical fiction, but just couldn't get into the mindset of an 18th century woman so devised the time travel in order to place a modern woman in the period she wanted to write about. That decision made the books even more interesting. All of the main characters are relatable and fleshed-out. The history is meticulously researched. The conversations, love stories, intrigue, etc feel organic. The descriptions of Scotland - both modern and historical - are amazing and make me love the country even though I've never been. I really have almost no criticisms of the writing.

Meanwhile, Davina Porter is one of the best narrators I've encountered in an audiobook. (Thank you, thank you to the narrator and audiobook producers or whoever arranged for the same narrator to read the whole series so far.) She manages to have a completely different voice for each main character and to my untrained ear moves effortlessly from one accent to another as the story dictates. Her American accent is not perfect, but it's still very good. She has a great cadence, sounds like she's read the book 100 times prior to narrating, and never stumbles over what must be incredibly difficult Gaelic words... (in fact, a friend of mine who is reading the whole series on paper calls me occasionally to have me pronounce the Gaelic words for her).

Clearly, these are some of my favorite all time audiobooks. Despite their length, I'm on my third time through the series. Speaking of length, all the books in the series are pretty long, but still only one credit so if you have an Audible subscription, they are great deals. In short, buy the books, you won't regret it.

Very good book, a little unsatisfied with the end!

I liked this book very much. More then the last two, which I found a bit boring at times like she was just biding time to get us to the point of revolution. This one was very well written and interesting. I liked getting to know William more, some others complained about that... But the end, I was shocked when I heard "The End" I went back thinking I had hit a button on my ipod and missed several sections. It wasn't even in a "too be continued" way that some series are, it just let things out...confusing? But I did really enjoy the book and series. Will have to wait until the next to find out what happens, get writting Diana!

another great one

Another great story in the continuing saga of Jamie and Claire Frazier, this being book #7. This one takes place during the years of 1776 - 1778. It starts off in North Carolina at the start of the Revolutionary War and winds its way up the colonies through Virginia to New York, Philadelphia and makes a side trip to Scotland. An interesting perspective on the war that I'd never really thought about was that what side were you on, independence or remaining loyal to the King of England. All were subjects of the crown at the beginning. But, even before the war started you had to be careful in communicating which side you were on. If it came out, people from the other side might burn your house down and do other bad things to you. Of personal interest to me in this story was a very detailed account of the battles of Ticonderoga and Saratoga in New York state. The British were commanded by General John Burgoyne. My ancestor that came from England to the US served under l Burgoyne in the British Army. It was interesting to think that my great-great-great-great grandfather (I counted all the greats to get ti right) was slogging through the woods, the swamps, affected by the bugs and humidity, being hungry, tired, etc. After the war, rather than go back to England he settled in Hartford, CT. But, even though it was a really long book like the first six, it was still a great story and by this time, you feel like all the characters are friends. Davina Porter is a great narrator also. Book #8 is supposedly out this fall and at some point the TV series will start on A&E. Lots to look forward to!

I Don't Want to Get to the End of This Book!

I am dragging this book out as long as I can because I don't want it to end! Can hardly wait for the next book in the series.
