Acerca de esta escucha

From the New York Times best-selling author Marc Eliot comes the definitive biography of one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful actors, producers, and directors in the history of American motion pictures.

As an actor, he seduced us with his tough-guy charm in A Fistful of Dollars and Dirty Harry. As a director and a producer, he amazed us with his artistic insight and technical savvy in Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Changeling. Clint Eastwood represents the finest cinematic achievements of the last decades, and he remains one of film's greatest living legends.

In American Rebel, Marc Eliot examines the ever-exciting, often tumultuous arc of Eastwood's life and career, from his days as a disaffected college dropout, to his rise to fame as the archetypal loner, to his acceptance into the pantheon of the Academy as a multiple Oscar Award winner.

But this unauthorized biography is as much about Eastwood's personal life as his public work, and unlike past biographers, Eliot explores Eastwood's complex relationship between his life and his art with an unflinching look at his failures and his successes.

The most complete and up-to-date Eastwood biography yet, American Rebel is a must-have for Eastwood fans and anyone who loves movies.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Although Eastwood did not consent to be interviewed and key sources asked not to be named, Eliot documents a wealth of details in this well-researched, comprehensive biography that will not disappoint Eastwood's fans." ( Publishers Weekly)
“The story of a man who goes from small-time jazz pianist and gas-station attendant to Hollywood leading man reads like a rich movie plotline. All the sex, brawls, and gunslinging are here.” ( Playboy)
Thorough Research • Insightful Storyline • Decent Reagan Impersonation • Entertaining Biography • Skillful Writing

Eastwood fans should love this. The book hums along at a good pace thanks to the skillful writing of Eliot. I might critique his attempted Clint impersonation, but it makes the audiobook all the more entertaining. Recommend!

Very well written and performed

Kind of once over lightly for Eastwood. I know Clint didn't cooperate, so the author is struggling with secondary sources. But if you love Clint's work, this may be of interest.
Note the the narrator: your Eastwood imitation is terrible. Don't do imitations in your readings unless you can completely nail the imitation. I actually prefer readers who don't act, but just read the books. I'll bring my interpretation to the story, I don't need yours. My favorite readers are Richard Ferrone, superstar reader Dick Hill, and for a female reader, Kirsten Potter. All of them read clearly, and bring some emotion to the emotional bits. However, they do not act out the part, and they do not do imitations. Your imitation of Clint sounds like a bad imitation at an open mic night at a comedy club.

O.K if you are a BIG Eastwood fan

Would you consider the audio edition of American Rebel to be better than the print version?

This is the one case where I'd advise to read the book unless you like shtick with your story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clint. It's obvious.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Marc Eliot?

Pert near anyone.

Any additional comments?

Good book, very thorough, well-researched.

Narrator does fine Ronald Reagan impersonation?

Now please get to work on the next 10 years of Clint's life. The story still has a long way to go!

Thank goodness we have this book!

Author has done a thorough and thoughtful job analysing and contextualizing Eastwood's personal and professional lives. Production is good but has some inconsistencies from time-to-time. Give that man a glass of Throatcoat!

A truly worth while investment !
I'm not much for the author's attempt at doing voice impressions, I feel as though it detracts from the actual storyline !
Having said that, the storyline itself is full of insight, and lesser known facts about Clint Eastwood, that, at least from my personal perspective, wasn't aware of !
A well researched, well written biography in my opinion !
I hope my recommendation encourages you to make the investment, and you enjoy your read/listen !

Elliot makes sure to let us know at the end of the book that he purposely stayed away from Eastwood and those in his inner circle to avoid losing creative control. Admirable, since surely Eastwood probably wouldn’t have signed off on all the pregnancies and non-marriages that are listed, but as a result, some components are definitely missing. Also, while the author certainly knows his own material, he’s not the greatest narrator, and also spends a lot of time listing dates that probably don’t need to be listed, because it makes it sound like a elongated bibliography. He also does not do impressions well, and his Eastwood impression any times comes off as a sedated Jonathan Winters. Still a good read.

Very thorough
