Was an advanced civilization lost to history in the global cataclysm that ended the last Ice Age? Graham Hancock, the internationally best-selling author, has made it his life's work to find out - and in America Before, he draws on the latest archaeological and DNA evidence to bring his quest to a stunning conclusion.

We’ve been taught that North and South America were empty of humans until around 13,000 years ago - among the last great landmasses on earth to have been settled by our ancestors. But new discoveries have radically reshaped this long-established picture, and we know now that the Americas were first peopled more than 130,000 years ago - many tens of thousands of years before human settlements became established elsewhere.

Hancock's research takes us on a series of journeys and encounters with the scientists responsible for the recent extraordinary breakthroughs. In the process, from the Mississippi Valley to the Amazon rain forest, he reveals that ancient "New World" cultures share a legacy of advanced scientific knowledge and sophisticated spiritual beliefs with supposedly unconnected "Old World" cultures. Have archaeologists focused for too long only on the "Old World" in their search for the origins of civilization while failing to consider the revolutionary possibility that those origins might in fact be found in the "New World"?

America Before: The Key to Earth's Lost Civilization is the culmination of everything that millions of people have loved in Hancock's body of work over the past decades, namely a mind-dilating exploration of the mysteries of the past, amazing archaeological discoveries, and profound implications for how we lead our lives today.

I'm a big fan of Graham Hancock's work, but if you're not familiar with his work then I definitely recommend reading Fingerprints and/or Magicians of the God's before America Before.

Great book

I'm in Cusco, Peru exploring the ruins attributed to the Incas as I listen. Great!!

better than the Peruvian tour guides

I am a fan of Graham's books. The material was interesting but a little dry with names and dates listed often. Overall, he always changes my mind about what I used to believe. His arguments are just too good to deny.

Love that Early Man in America stuff!

Interesting, but got a bit too speculative and spiritual towards the end. Made a few good points but spoilt by his apparent quest to understand the spiritual beliefs of his yet to be discovered pre-civilization culture.

New theory of before America

this is a great book for learning about the history of North and South America, and the often overlooked people that were native to the area long before the Europeans found it.

incredible research

A little dry at times (what can you expect when years and dates are thrown at you rapid fire) but overall a really good listen. Love Graham Hancock and his contributions to the subject of lost and ancient civilizations.
Will probably listen again after re-visiting both Fingerprints AND Magicians of the Gods.

Great Read!

Hancock hits it out of the ballpark again. A bunch of new info about the Americas. Amazing! I didn’t want the book to end. Thanks Graham!

Put down any preconceived notions of the history of man and reset what you once knew.

I really like Graham Hancock, have read several of his books and started following him with The Sign and the Seal. I love that he looks at stuff with an open mind and tries to think out of the box. He does extensive research, which he catalogs, so his ideas are presented in a well thought out and logical manor. This is important because his subject matter often attracts the tin foil hat crowd who say anything without any thought or research to get attention, sell a book or to get people to watch their you tube channel. This book is good and his research, analysis and conclusions are very thought provoking and enlightening. I did get a little bogged down in the middle with some of what I thought was a little over explained and detailed science and history, but I understand it helps back up his theories and he has to fill pages with content. I also did feel a little beat over the head with the White Man Bad history lessons, but I get it, it's certainly part of the story. Overall a good book, with some very insightful history, discovery and ideas that really again drive home the fact that we know so little about our prehistory and there is so much more to discover.

Good Graham Hancock but not Great

Graham Hancock is amazing. His boundless energy and intellectual capacity is astonishing, but the majority of this book is dedicated to his obsession of a lost advanced culture. Hancock deserves credit fir writing this book and showcasing the significant and impressive history that very few Americans know about. However, too much of this book — at least 2/3 — is just another spin on his grand theory that his advanced civilization was wiped out by a cataclysmic event around 12,800 years ago. Hancock may be correct but we keep hearing the same story under a different name. First it’s Antarctica, then it’s the Amazon rain forest and now it’s someplace near Toledo (a little sarcasm there). I love Hancock and look forward to his books, but stick to the facts!
