Gripping Sci-fi Adventure

Any J. Murphy has written a terrific series with interesting, flawed, and engaging well-fleshed characters. Taking place in a vividly described future world, this is a character driven story. It is easy to care about what happens to these characters. The gripping, complex plot moves along at a good pace with plenty of action, intrigue and suspense. Erin Bateman's excellent performance added depth to the characters. I was provided a free review copy of this audio book and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Great Listen

Another good listen. I enjoyed the story very much it was written well and followed a logical line. These poor folks can’t seem to catch a break but among the chaos they still find love. This is by no means a romance book it just barely touches on it. The characters are running all over space trying to find each other and pick up friends on the way. Some they are still trying to figure out if they can trust. I am sure everything will come right in the end. The narrator did a better job on this book you could feel the emotion in her voice and that is what I like. She seemed knowledgeable of the topics she was narrating so she took the time to become familiar before recording. I am looking forward to the next book.

2nd book is even better than the first!

“Allies and Enemies: Rogues: Allies and Enemies Series, Book 2” picks up two years after the dramatic events of Book 1.

Sela and Jon are now eking out a life together in “the reaches”, but at least they are together.

Unknown to them, Erelah survived her suicide attack against Tristic! Book 2 focuses more on Erelah and the spy/criminal/helper Asher Korbyn than on Sela and Jon. A new character is introduced: the intelligent, curious and flippant human Dr. Rachel (she’s lesbian, with a partner she desperately wants to get word to!).

The story of the Eugenis, the Skiloids and the Humans gets much more fleshed out, and the small and larger political issues, and the sci-fi aspects, both mental and mechanical come more into play.

I wish I could say more, because this is a fantastically entertaining book that is wonderfully narrated, but there are so many twists and turns that any comments would fall into spoilers territory, and it’d be much more fun for you to listen to this book than read a longer review!

Easily a 5* book, and I’m even excited by the cliffhanger, as Sela asks Asher: “how would you like to start a war?” Yes! Please oh please don’t delay with Book #3 as an audiobook!!!!

If it can go Wrong it will

That is what is happening with John and Ty in one part of the universe. While Erelah and Asher are also in tight fix too In their part of the Galaxy.
Boy when things go wrong, they go throughly wrong. This is action filled adventure full of interesting conclusions on some of the various characters.

Great Continuation of this Sci Fi series.

Allies and Enemies: Rogues is a great 2nd installment of the series. This book begins 2 years after the 'explosive' end of the last book. Jon and Sela are in the reaches, struggling to get by and searching for Jon's sister Erelah as Jon can not believe that she is dead even though Sela is sure she is dead which is causing some friction between them.

Little do they know that Erelah has survived her Kamikaze mission against Tristik and her ship somehow but as she comes to she realizes she is in quite a bit of trouble as she and her ship the Jacosta have been captured by pirates on a Zenti ship. It isn't looking good for her but the Captain Asher Korbyn/Corsair keeps his crew in check and away from her as he sees her as his ticket to a better life. Asher is a brash and cocky guy a bit of a Rogue you might say who definitely seems to have an agenda but doesn't seem like a bad person. Erelah and Asher end up quite accidentally forming a bond with eachother but Erelah really doesn't know if she can trust him or if she even likes him.

I won't give away much more of the plot but this book is much more about Erelah and Asher then it is about Jon and Sela like the first book was. It expands on the story and the history of this world and it has plenty of action, bad guys and danger to go around. The narration by Erin Bateman was great again and really adds to the enjoyment of the story. I very much want to continue on in this series to see where it goes and how things end up and if you enjoyed the first book I definitely recommend that you get this book as well.

Perfect continuation with excellent narrator!

Loved the voices of narration to an intense compelling story. Looking forward to next book!!!

A very good series

I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review. Honestly, after Book 1, I would have bought book 2. You really have to have the whole 5-book set, it is written and narrated so well. Sela and Jon are still in hiding from the Regime. Sela want to move to a different planet, but Jon 'feels' that his sister Erelah is still alive, even after two years. Erelah wakens after being taken by pirates. Erelah's situation is better described in Book1. The leader of the pirates, who was actually in deep cover, escaped with Erelah with her special one of a kind J-drive, which Erelah invented and then stole because she realized she didn't want the Regime to have it. The book chronicles these two fugitive pairs as they struggle to reunite.

Great Space Opera!!!!

This Erelah heavy novel takes place two years after the end of the first novel.

It has more hard science then the first one and the author’s research is apparent. Humans feature much more prominently. Readers/Listeners are given more backstory and Murphy does a wonderful job world building.

The author does a good job filling the reader what happened in the two years, though it seems like no other characters developed any in the interim, except Erelah. I secretly hoped her powers would have grown more than they did.

A number of new characters are introduced, and I was saddened Broomhilda didn’t stick around as a friendly.

One thing that was confusing is the multiple names each character had.
