The first victims were young black women who worked in the households of Austin's most prominent citizens. The murders continued month after month,until suddenly, shockingly, on a bloody Christmas Eve, the pattern changed - and the trial that resulted would uncover an explosive scandal of sex and power that would tear the city of Austin apart. The scene of these crimes was a capital city in uneasy transition.

Decent book, well performed.

Based on the life of William Porter, an author from the late 1800s and early 1900 s.

Lovely story, told in a clear sequence.

The twist at the end was magnificent. And the decades long mystery eventually solved. Excellent story, I enjoyed every single moment!

Excellent performance....

.... but the twist at the end is visible way in advance. The details of the Austin murders and city affairs at the time are rich and intriguing. Well written but predictable.

Should be called ‘no twist at the end’

The mystery is so easy to figure out that for 15 hours you keep wondering why the characters can’t see it. Kept listening to the end waiting for the twist. But there isn’t one, it turns out just like you figured out at 5 hours into the story. The narration is wonderful and you grow to like some of the characters. But it was just plain boring for the last 15 hours. Perhaps an abridged version would leave the reader feeling less like this was a huge waste of time.
