A highly relevant and gripping novel that challenges us to ask what it means to forgive while seeking justice and to pursue reconciliation while loving others as ourselves.

Adisa Johnson is living her dream of practicing law with a prestigious firm in downtown Atlanta. Then a split-second mistake changes the course of her career.

Left with no other options, Adisa returns to her hometown where a few days earlier a white police officer shot an unarmed black teen who is now lying comatose in the hospital.

Adisa is itching to jump into the fight as a special prosecutor but feels pulled to do what she considers unthinkable as a young black woman—defend the officer.

As the court case unfolds, everyone in the small community must confront their own prejudices. Caught in the middle, Adisa also tries to chart her way along a path complicated by her budding relationship with a charismatic young preacher who leads the local movement demanding the police officer answer for his crime.

In a small Georgia town where racial tensions run high and lives are at stake, can one lawyer stand up for justice against the tides of prejudice?

  • A stand-alone legal drama
  • Book length: approximately 120,000 words

Reseñas de la Crítica

'Whitlow gives a powerful message about the need for people of all colors and backgrounds to come together in times of trouble. . .'
'A nice option for book groups, Christy Award winner Whitlow's timely story shines a spotlight on prejudice, race, and the pursuit of justice in a world bent on blind revenge. Fans of Greg Iles' Natchez Burning will find this just as compelling if not more so.'
Powerful Forgiveness • Relevant Racial Themes • Good Voice • Well-developed Characters • Surprising Twists

The reader did not differentiate voices which was a distraction. But story is well written and has a few surprises.

Excellent story

Absolutes loved the story and how God can break through the demonic stronghold of prejudice, coming from South Africa that is very relevant from both sides and all the people stuck in the middle

What a fantastic book

Not being an avid book reader and scheduled to be on the road, I was blessed to have chosen this book for my first audio book. Thanks Santa for the recommendation.

Great book! However I was shaking my head at end of this, because the main character, Adisa, wasn’t held accountable for her own prejudices and prejudgments. While every other character definitely was.

Overall a very good read, enjoyed the book the entire time until my disillusionment at the end.

Good Book - Disappointed with one aspect

loved the story. the narrator was a little cheesy though. a little inflection would be nice, his delivery lacked depth and character
