Even better the second time

This is the second time I have listened to the story. I loved it even more. The narrators voice perfect in the story is lovely.

Very well written, poignant and engaging with interesting historical aspects bringing the past to life.
I recommend it unreservedly.

Great story! Narration is a bit annoying, but story can overcome the inconsistent narration.

Revenge is Sweet!

Love the Architecture!! Old San Francisco before the 1906 earthquake and subsequent fire. Look up Old Nob Hill & Van Ness Houses for the beautiful imagery to read along with.

Great plot a lot of twist and turns. Characters were brought to life with great narration. You could visualize the surroundings.

Loved this book

I normally don’t use audiobooks, but I fell in love with May and was horrified by what her family did. I have family in San Francisco. Chinese family. It was hard and interesting, at the same time, to read about the quake of 1906. And it’s sad that the Chinese were given so little respect.

distracting narrator

story was ok, but voices of narrator were distracting. a little robotic with exception of voice for main character.

A pleasant surprise.

I did not know what to expect with this book, but I enjoyed it very much. It started out a little slow, but the build up was necessary to understand later events in the story. The main character was a little annoying and naive in the beginning, but she grows and changes throughout the book. I also enjoyed the descriptions. I felt like I was going back in time.
