Acerca de esta escucha
Foreword Reviews praises the book as "a sensitive guidebook for grieving parents…. Intimate, warm, and conversational in tone yet searing in its honesty," and says it "shows that while there is no ‘getting over’ the loss of a child, it is still possible, with time, to fill the heart’s emptiness with love and light.”
A Space in the Heart is about the anguish that the death of a child brings and how to survive and thrive in its aftermath. It’s part memoir, part self-help, zero bullshit and 100 percent straight from the heart. It’s about our never-ending love for our lost children and how that love ultimately helps us transform and heal. In other words, it’s a roadmap for a road no one would ever choose to travel.
Grief isn’t something that you overcome…but you can learn to live with it. It will take time. It will take work. It will take pain. It will take strength. It will take an open heart. It will take everything you have. It will take things that you didn’t know you had. That’s what this book is really about and what sets it apart. It’s about the specific heartache that the death of a child brings. It includes an honest retelling of the ups and downs of parenting an adopted son who struggled with addiction and mental illness. It’s a heartbreaking, at times surprisingly humorous, yet ultimately comforting guided tour through the hell of losing a child—a journey on which a parent can transform from ordinary to extraordinary.
One of the many other things Larry Carlat learned is that grief lasts until the day we die. The question becomes—what do we want to do with it until then? How do we want to live our lives knowing that we’ve lost a vital piece of who we are? His greatest wish is that this book will help answer those existential questions and, above all, provide unwavering hope along the way.

Connected to my grieving heart.
At first I wasn’t sure about his voice and delivery. But as I relaxed and listened more. Yes he has the gift of sharing his grief and stories with compassion, humor, honesty. I could cry with his grief. I could let my own grief flow. And the hope he encourages and ways to cope to soften the sad waves that roll on in.
I’ve found more relatability and honest dialogue than all the many books I’ve checked out.
Thankful to the author.

A space in the heart
This was one of the most enjoyable and effective grief books that I’ve ever read. The way Larry wrote with raw emotion, humor, and honesty made me laugh and cry at the same time. He is truly the most talented writer. I have also lost my beautiful son to suicide and reading this book made me feel not so alone in my grief. I wish Larry would write more books on this topic. I am truly grateful that he took the time to write this book and share his grief journey and helping others to heal at the same time.❤️

Helpful
I really LOVE this book especially compared to the half a dozen other child loss and grief books. It helped the most. The info is spot on and there’s no bs it’s a must read if you’re feeling the loss of your child is too much to bare. Thanks again Larry, I appreciate you!

Authentic, heartfelt, REAL HELP IN A TIME OF NEED!
I’ve read/listened to so many books since my son passed away just over a year ago. THIS book has been the most authentic, real talk, no tiptoeing, say it as it is, brutally honest & understanding! As a bereaved parent, it’s helpful to hear from another who truly understands. Everyone will experience loss & it’s all difficult, but losing a child, regardless of age, is a unique battering of the soul. I’m so grateful for Mr Carlets open heart dialogue & way of expressing all the emotions, while giving hope to us who are new to this journey.
Bless you sir.

Touches my heart and raised my spirit
Having the author read his memoir truly brings the book to life, The authenticity makes it easier for a wounded heart to hear from someone who knows what it's like. The author accomplished the unthinkable...took me by the hand and helped me find my way out of the dark. Highly recommend this book to anyone going through grief of any kind, but especially the most painful grief, the loss of a child. Larry's ability to know what he is feeling and put words to the unthinkable, opened me up to do the same. I walked away wanting to be Larry's friend and to reach out to him just to sooth my soul.
