This is a detailed true story of the conquest of a land and people that was to become the fighting spirit of the United States people for centuries to come. Eckart captured the moment in time on paper and Heitsch expertly and passionately tells the story to our ears. You just have to listen and learn. Well done.

Alan Eckert is becoming one of my favorite authors. This book has had me riveted to it. Love these books on historical figures

Good Book on a Great Man

An excellent, detailed but movingly personal account if the life of the last Native American leader capable of halting the tide of European advancement in North America. As was stated by his arch enemy William Harrison years later had Tecumseh been born earlier he might have managed to create an amalgamation Red Nation. It was not to be. Too many factors, too much distance, too many divisions and jealosies, and too poor communications all contributed to his sorrow in the heart failure. An excellent read.

Moving and heroic

A great collection of historical personalities and events with the emotions of man all put together in this early struggle for prominence and survival in America at that time.

Epic story!!! Love it.

I have read the many years back loved it then and love it still.
It is nice to hear something written about my people, the Shawnee, Potawatomi, Sac and Fox and Kickapoo.
Well written, well performed. Could have used some guidance on the pronunciation of the names but overall it was great.

What a magnificent tale that is told just as well. I am grateful to have had the privilege to listen. All Native stories should find the ears of their people. Please make more.

Thank you

Another great piece of "historical fiction" from Mr Eckert. I really enjoyed this book. It goes over the same time span as his other books on audible but more from the Indian perspective & delves more into the tribe member individual personalities and relationships among & between the tribes. Even tho it does go over some of the same events (battles, etc) it does so with a different focus than before and in no way feels like a re-telling or rehashing of the same events. I would STRONGLY recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed The Frontiersmen or That Dark & Bloody River.

The narrator was good, tho I thought at first I wasnt going to be able to make it thru due to my personal distaste for over enunciation, but he grew on me as the chapters passed & was no issue at all. Deff not worth missing this book over.

I Really wish Audible would pick up the other books in Mr. Eckert's "Winning of America" series.

I read several of Eckert's books in my early/mid 20's. I am in my 70's now and they are just as exciting now as it was then.

Eckert came through.....again

At 30+ hours it’s a titanic audiobook, yet the story grips you from the start and never lets up. Such a powerful tale of bravery, determination, and tragedy. Tecumseh is probably the historical figure I admire the most, and this story really did him justice. That being said, what keeps this from being five stars is the fact that it’s historical fiction marketed as a biography. I’ve already preordered the new Tecumseh biography slated for release later this year because I want to know for certain that events in his life happened in specific ways. Eckert makes assumptions to connect the dots between well known events. This makes for great fiction, but not strictly fact based storytelling.

Compelling work of Historical Fiction

I have read so much on tecumseh. I admire and respect him so much. This book shows him from birth to death and what a good and complex person he was and what he wanted for his people
