A new and highly anticipated Inspector Lynley TV series releasing this fall from BritBox

Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley are back in the next Lynley novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth George.

Michael Lobb has just been found dead on the floor of his family’s tin & pewter workshop. It’s suspicious enough that his body was found by a representative of Cornwall EcoMining, a company keen on acquiring his family’s land, and it’s made even worse when he’s revealed to have been the majority owner of the business and the sole obstacle preventing a deal from being made. But it doesn’t take long for Inspector Beatrice Hannaford to unearth the layers of estrangement that surrounded Michael in his final days, pointing suspicions elsewhere. In comes Kayla, a young woman half Michael’s age, who has just been made his widow.

Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers are brought in to help solve the crime and search for justice in a community where lust, greed, and family traditions collide with devastating consequences.

Elizabeth George is a masterful detailed author. I hope she continues to write and delve into police procedural crime solving.
This book was all over the place. Grasping all of the various plot threads lead me to think the author was using her frustration for the title.
Too much detail for subplots left a desire for clarity.
I will happily wait for another edition of the best writer of British Police Crime Fiction.

Exceptional narration. Bouncy plot.

George is a lovely writer who reveals the stories, good and destructive, we tell ourselves. The murder mystery she weaves, while compelling, is secondary to what her richly drawn characters show us about surviving love and loss.

Great storytelling

There was too little Linley & Havers. They didn’t come into the story until it was between 2/3 & 3/4 of the way done. The lead up to the them was hard to care about.

Too little Linley & Havers

Elizabeth George is one of my favorite authors, but this was far from her best effort. Lindley isn’t in it until about halfway and the main inspector on the case has little personality and George makes little effort to develop the characters. I will still read her books, but this was disappointing.

Not her best

Elizabeth George's story telling skills soar even past resolution of the mystery. I can't wait for the next book.

Lynly moves dorward
