"A wonderful, splendid book - a book that should be ready by every American, student or otherwise, who wants to understand his country, its true history, and its hope for the future." (Howard Fast)
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace.
Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers. As Zinn shows, many of our country's greatest battles - the fights for a fair wage, an eight-hour workday, child-labor laws, health and safety standards, universal suffrage, women's rights, racial equality - were carried out at the grassroots level, against bloody resistance.
Covering Christopher Columbus' arrival through President Clinton's first term, A People's History of the United States features insightful analysis of the most important events in our history.

What did you love best about A People's History of the United States?
I love that the book gives the other side of the story... the side of the story that is ignored in History books "approved" for students. This book outlines how this nation was created, the good with the many, many bads. It tells about the history of the People's struggle against endless greed and corruption between the Rich and the Politicians. What happened in the 18th and 19th century is still happening today. What other book might you compare A People's History of the United States to and why?
I can't think of any other books that cover's the time period of this book. I've read many history books on Politics, Native Americans, Latino Americans, and African Americans, but this book touches on all of these tragic stories.Which scene was your favorite?
I don't have a favorite... the entire time I listened to this book, my stomach was in knots. The deception and violence permitted and performed by the U.S. government and the businesses that it fought to support, is jaw dropping. If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The book itself isn’t great. It feels like one long run on sentence. Having not read the book and text, I don’t know if it’s the writing or the reading.
Not the best audio book
