Resumen del Editor

When Lucky Caldwell was 10, her mother, Red - the best-known hooker in Dundee, Idaho - married Morris Caldwell, a wealthy and much older man. It didn't last, of course, but Morris' kindness was the highlight of Lucky's life.

Mike Hill, Morris' grandson, doesn't feel too well disposed toward Red or her kids. He believes they alienated Morris from his family. Even Morris' Victorian mansion, on the property next to the Hill ranch, wasn't inherited by one of his grandchildren. Instead the house went to Lucky, who left it sitting empty for years.

Now that Red and Morris are both dead, Lucky has finally come back to Dundee. She plans to restore the derelict place - and to look for her real father, who has to be one of three men named in her mother's diary.

That means Mike has a new neighbor.

One he doesn't want to like....

My Favorite So Far

I’ve been listening to this series over the last few weeks, rotating it with other books. This series is an easy listen and I like that the author chose not to paint a small town as if it’s an idyllic heaven where everyone loves and takes care of each other. There are some genuinely bad people in this town and stigmas/reputation sticks with the characters in this little town.

I enjoyed this book in particular because the female lead was interesting to me. She is a compelling mix of strength, weakness, intelligence, vulnerability, and loneliness. I was able to sympathize with this character to the point of genuinely rooting for her to find the very predictable happy ending this series always promises.

I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because, let’s be real, this is a not some great masterwork that’ll go down in literary history. But this series is an easy listen, has plenty of heart, and is realistic enough to be believable. All of those things set it apart, in my eyes, from a good deal of romance novels. I truly appreciate that his series doesn’t give in to the eye-roll-worthy dramatics that seem so common in romances. Women aren’t kidnapped and their lives aren’t in danger from a one-dimensional bad guy. The conflicts in this series always stem from a realistic, believable, grounded place. So, I’d say the series is a step above most romance and definitely worth a listen.

Wonderfully sweet, complex story.

Mike and Lucky are endearing characters you can't help but root for. Rachel did a lovely job performing.

Great read

A Home of Her Own (Dundee, Idaho #4) was a great read by Brenda Novak. Lucky’s mom married Morris, a much older and wealthy man, when she was ten years old. Although the marriage didn’t last long, Morris was extremely important and a father figure to her. Many of Dundee’s resident’s blame Lucky and her mom for alienating Morris from his family and causing his death. When Morris died, he gave his house to Lucky and it sat empty for a long time. This angered many people especially Morris’ grandson Mike Hill. Lucky returned to Dundee after Morris and her mother’s death’s. She wants to restore the home and look for her real father even though no one seems to be happy that she’s there. I really enjoyed Lucky and Mike’s story and can’t wait to read more in this series.

LOVED

I really loved these characters. I loved the story and didn't want it to end but I had to know what happened next. I loved following them threw their journey of over coming obstacles. They had to deal with the past obstacles before they could deal with the present ones.
I think the narrator did a fabulous job.
