In 1939, tiny Finland waged war - the kind of war that spawns legends - against the mighty Soviet Union, and yet, their epic struggle has been largely ignored. Guerrillas on skis, heroic single-handed attacks on tanks, unfathomable endurance, and the charismatic leadership of one of this century's true military geniuses - these are the elements of both the Finnish victory and a gripping tale of war.

Good history book. Very entertaining and informative highly recommended. I hope Audible get more Titles on this subject.

Very entertaining and informative.

A little too emotional for my taste, the book accurately covers the war as well as all its context. Even though Trotter states at the end that the Finns were the only Baltic nation that kept independence after wwii due to fighting, his attitude towards going into war with Russians and towards Stalin is sometimes strangely ambiguous.

Slightly superfluous, yet coherent account of the war.

Great book but the narration can be a little over dramatic. Book had great larger political perspective but also great on the ground perspectives. The recording says it’s unabridged but it is missing a section on the Simo Häyhä which is in the book

Excellent

This was the most informative, accurate retelling of the events preceding the major outbreak of the Second World War in which the tiny Finland defended herself against the enormity of the Red Army for 100 plus days. The professionalism of the Finnish leadership and the individual bravery of the Finnish troops is explained in heartbreaking detail and the failings that would lead to the early collapse of the western half of the Soviet Union under Nazi invasion are also visited. The performance is excellent. Matthew Lloyd Davis does a masterful job! An all around great story and valuable historical account.

A little known, short lived epic!

The narrator did an excellent job with the book.

the book is definitely from the perspective of the Finnish, but still an exceptional view into this nugget of history. Oddly enough, I started this a couple months before the Ukraine crisis, and the parallels were striking.

great narration of a great story
