Story engaging but author not too familiar with regency era

Great story! I really enjoyed the characters (although they all behave vastly different than in the books), the story line was great and I was engaged up through the end. The author needs to brush up on the regency era however, this did detract from the story a bit. A lot of the situations simply wouldn’t have occurred (IE the main characters are often alone with no chaperone, Lydia can go to an inn with a man without destroying the reputation of the whole family and I’m not certain the author is aware the Tonne refers to London itself, not just any town).

Enjoyed the story but not the narrator.

I had a hard time enjoying this story because of the narrator’s voice and sound. She sounded droll, drawling, tough and haughty. Not like the characters. It can be a mix of how the story was written as well that was out of character. I think this is the first Jane Austen fan fiction book I have not enjoyed to its fullest. Before you buy listen to the sample. Reading the story by yourself might be better :) cause it was a good story and well written.

A True Disappointment

The premise was promising, but poorly executed. The characters are not true to canon, and there are so many inconsistencies that I was appalled. The language was not true to the period, for example one character spoke of "my man" when a regency woman would speak of her beau. Don't waste your money.

Who are these people?

No character in this story is recognizable, nor is the setting. This story would have sat better with me if it was about totally different characters. Pemberly house, Netherfield & Longbourne all in Hertfordshire?? Very disappointed.

Not believable

Just too many inconsistencies. They are supposedly in Merton, yet are sending a note to Pemberley house as if it is a few miles away only. Darcy laughing and being amiable not believable. The character sketches have no depth. Couldn’t finish.

Not consistent - Do not recommend

I normally enjoy a different take on a story, but this one made me angry with the various issues in character and scene development. The story line was intriguing, but the changes made the characters and story inconsistent.

One minute Lydia is indicating Eliza should not judge someone before knowing them. The next conversation Lydia is the exact opposite opinion. Darcy apologizes with Eliza accepting. Then Eliza reverts as if he never apologized. One day Darcy is the proud man. The next day he seems more like Mr. Wickham. The scene starts in Netherfield then apparently is actually taking place at Longbourne. The original challenges in Pride and Prejudice were not in my mind handled as eloquently in this version. It seems this story was a more modern interpretation since all characters had easy access to one another, but it did not keep certain elements clear to make a solid transition for this variation.

In short - I would not recommend this story!

Avoid

I cannot even finish this book. The narrator is grating. The story is tedious. There are so many changes that are not explained that it's hard to comprehend what is going on. At the ball where Elizabeth and Darcy danced, it was obvious they were not doing the line regency dances of the time but some form of more modern dance. I could go no further when it was implied that Longborne, Netherfield, and Pemberly were all very close to each other.

I know that this is JAFF and everyone is allowed to change things as they see fit, but this one is too confusing to work for me.

NOOOOOO!

I've never written a really negative review of a book but this requires it. The writing is terrible! Characters receive important information and don't remember shortly thereafter. The chronology can't keep itself straight and you can't tell who is speaking or thinking. The author doesn't know the social rules of the era and all of England appears to be within a couple hour ride. None of the characters resemble the original source material at all. Oh, and the saddles have saddle horns.
