Resumen del Editor

“The sea action is exciting and thoroughly convincing.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Todd Ingram is back in the fight.

After narrowly escaping the Japanese-held Philippines, he is promoted to the destroyer USS Howell.

His new assignment puts him in the middle of two epic naval engagements: the Battle of Cape Esperance and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. But his fight against the Imperial Japanese Navy is just the beginning.

Todd learns that his lost love has joined the Philippine resistance on a nearby island. He sets off to find her...under the watchful eye of an enemy spy in the ranks.

With the war at its apex, Todd must put his life on the line not only for the woman he loves, but for his country, and a world that is perilously close to collapse.

Praise for John J. Gobbell and A Code for Tomorrow:

“The sea action is exciting and thoroughly convincing.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“A Code for Tomorrow is as big as a Fletcher-class destroyer and the story races along with pace and power.... A thrilling read.” (T. Jefferson Parker, author of Iron River)

“Gobbell...(once) a naval officer, combines painstaking research and solid storytelling to produce a highly readable military adventure.” (Booklist)

“From its exciting beginning onboard a Russian prisoner ship off the coast of San Francisco to its incredible high-action conclusion off the coast of Mindanao, this World War II novel cooks with intrigue.... This stick-to-your-fingers novel is John J. Gobbell at his best.” (Stephen J. Cannell, author of the Shane Scully series, including The Pallbearers)

Couldn't stop listening

An excellent novel of WW II. Reminded me of Patrick O'Brian, Cornwell and a Shaara. Have to read more by this author.

Great story frustrating narration

Story is great, good history, exciting plot line. Characters interesting. Narrator sounds ok but way too many mispronunciations. Will forgive him for some of the Japanese words although “Abe” should be familiar enough since their was a prime minister of Japan who does not say his name like our 16th president. But too many English words mispronounced became a distraction.

Fantastic Story Let Down By Rookie Narration

This is a well-written, highly enjoyable story (the entire series is excellent!). The characters are solid, the historical details are largely on point, and the plot is as engaging as they come. Unfortunately, the narration really does the story a disservice. Someone really should have edited and/or "proof-listened" to this story before release. Am currently halfway through the Audible book (having previously read the entire series) and there are already numerous glaring gaffs, including:
- Propellers "skything" [scything] the air
- "Semper Fee, Mac" [Semper Fi]
- the Army Air "Crop" [Corps]
- President Manuel "Kwayzon" [Quezon - should be "Kay-zone"]

These are really inexcusable and greatly detract from an otherwise outstanding book. I've never encountered another audio book with such poor pronunciation of key words. A real shame, since Michael Wolfe otherwise does a great job voicing the various characters.

Excellent sequel

A Code for Tomorrow is an excellent sequel to The Last Lieutenant. The author does an excellent job developing the character of Todd Ingram. He weaves Ingram's story into actual historical events in a way that seems very real. For anyone who has been to sea, the battle scenes are starkly realistic.

The narrator is solid, but continues to mispronounce Navy terms.

Strongly recommended for those who enjoy military fiction.

I'm enjoying this story but the narration...

I'm rather enjoying listening to the story. The author develops his characters fairly well and it stays mostly tied to historical reality while spinning an entertaining yarn.

But the narration. The narrator has the inflections that indicate that he may be a native English speaker but he manages to mis-pronounce words in English, French, Russian, Japanese, and Tagalog. It's kind of an amazing performance and I find myself listening for the next one. It's as if he has limited experiences and has rarely come in contact with other people. He is certainly not familiar with some technical terms and specialized vernacular. I've pledged to take a drink of Cognac every time he says "Boats wayne" or "Gun-whale."I just will have to explain to my wife why I may be a bit wobbly.

This performance is doing me a favor though. It has made me aware of the absolute importance of finding a really knowledgeable narrator before my work goes into audio format.

Well that was an exciting and wild ride

Wow, what a thrilling ride that was

I really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the characters and how the characters grew as the story continued.

I also love how it is written about real historical characters and it gives his real personality

I am looking forward to when the next audio book in this series is available
