A poignant family story

Moving

The setting was so very real and described so well, I felt I was there.

Great writing, not too flowery, and not mundane, it opened up a real world with real people. I thought at first it may have been a young adult story novel, but ended with just enough nuance and complexity to make it engaging and appropriate for more mature readers. The historical era events were made real and the characters very relatable. I journeyed right along with the mother and daughter characters and their quest to find the happiness and peace from before their violent separation.
