Resumen del Editor

Discover the keys to becoming a successful soccer coach.

There are a few keys that will either make or break your soccer coaching and in this book, you'll discover what they are. Without knowing these keys and adapting them in your coaching, it's really hard to reach success as a soccer coach. One of these keys is to always show engagement because if you don't, your players will never appreciate your efforts and their respect for your coaching abilities will be highly limited.

Avoiding Common Soccer Coaching Pitfalls

As a soccer coach, you will have a great responsibility, and failing to avoid the common coaching pitfalls could cost you a lot of energy and frustration. Some of the common pitfalls you will learn how to avoid are:

  • Avoiding over-coaching and the negative impact of it.
  • Why you should never abuse your authority as coach.
  • Meeting your players' expectations and making them happy.
  • How to avoid overwhelming your players?
  • Handling with players who think they are bigger than the team.

These are just few of the pitfalls I will cover, and I will also give you real examples from my own soccer career what could happen if you get stuck in any of these.

Developing Your Soccer Coaching Philosophy

As a coach, you need to look for different ways on how to develop yourself and take your skills to another level. A lot of coaches tend to get stuck in the same behavior and never actually reflect over what they can do in order to improve their coaching philosophy. In this book, I will present a few highly efficient strategies you can use and also explain the benefits behind them. Realize that it is your responsibility to constantly look for strategies that can help you take your coaching philosophy to another level!

New Coach, Great Book

Voice sounded robotic at times. Tips were good, for new coaches, or parent coaches. Great stories, to stress the points.

Good info, monotone orator

I love books authored by Mirsad Hasic, but I’m giving a 4-star overall simply because of the monotonous sound of Millian Quinteros (I’m sure that this is not the fault of Mirsad himself). Every sentence was the same- high inflection with the first few words, then drop down quickly, and stay at that lower pitch the rest of the sentence. More of a bother than an issue, but seems like something that could easily be fixed if he were to read other books.

Groan worthy "Management 101" somehow about soccer

This book starts out with incredibly obvious and almost comical examples how not to coach ever. I often asked myself: Does this really have to be said?

Overall the book quickly turned into what I would call a beginners class in Management. Management 101 if you will. Managing teams, players, groups, coaching, mentoring, and everything in between. Kinda with a soccer twist on it. But soccer being just a vehicle to bring those learnings across. I found most examples, especially early on, very basic and "Duh!"-worthy.

What takes further away from the credibility of this book are all the bad anecdotes. I mean if you have truly experienced all these in your soccer life you, misery just loves to follow you. And honestly, I think it is just hyperbole to somehow bridge over to the next obvious learning. To be fair, they are "fun" stories, but all together, more like fiction. Hence the 4 stars for story.

On top of that the book becomes contradictory a few times. Winning is not a thing, but achieving goals is. So when I achieve goals, is that a win then? Punishment and authority have been described and suggested in this book in all facets. Depending on where you are in the book some things are okay and later they are not. The same goes for some of the communications talk in the book. There is no clear line and guidance that I would confidently take away from this.

It gets funny when the unspoken rules come up but are actually being talked about. Not so much unspoken anymore now, are they!?

Overall I had to groan more often while listening to this book than I actually learned anything. Don't get me wrong, a lot of things are not wrong in this book, but if you had a somewhat decent upbringing or education of sorts, you likely should know most of these by heart already.

must listen for any coach

The amount of different coaches the author went through was staggering, but great flow and enjoyable listen.
