Resumen del Editor

Although it lasted only a single term, the presidency of George H. W. Bush was an unusually eventful one. Bush has said that to understand the history of his presidency, while "the documentary record is vital", interviews with members of his administration "add the human side that those papers can never capture".

This audiobook draws on interviews with senior White House and Cabinet officials conducted under the auspices of the Bush Oral History Project (a cooperative effort of the University of Virginia's Miller Center and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation) to provide a multidimensional portrait of the first President Bush and his administration.

The contributors to 41 - all seasoned observers of American politics, foreign policy, and government institutions - examine how George H. W. Bush organized and staffed his administration, operated on the international stage, followed his own brand of Republican conservatism, handled legislative affairs, and made judicial appointments. 41 deepens the historical record of the 41st president and offers fresh insights into the rise of the "new world order" and its challenges.

The book is published by Cornell University Press.

41 provides a valuable perspective into the intense polarization in Washington today.” (Janet M. Martin, Bowdoin College, author of The Presidency and Women: Promise, Performance, and Illusion)
“The integration of new oral histories into the analysis throughout this book demonstrates that these oral histories will be a highly useful source for further scholarship.” (Thomas Langston, Tulane University, author of The Cold War Presidency: A Documentary History)

Good book, horrible narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

Good idea to publish edited presidential oral histories.

What didn’t you like about Gregg A. Rizzo’s performance?

He emphasized the wrong words in every single sentence. Never heard anything like it before. He got exited at the wrong words... just really bad. Makes listening rather difficult. Beautiful voice however. I suppose it could happen if he just picked up the book and started recording it without a prior read. Surprised at University but also Bush people that allowed this to air

A little boring

Would you consider the audio edition of 41 to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

The parts about his earlier days.

What about Gregg A. Rizzo’s performance did you like?

Nothing stuck out. Very average reading of a book. It was like being in a college lecture.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

The overall premise of the book is good. Although I believe the way it was structured was very poor. There was no continuity.
