Tough without the book

Very good presentation of difficult material. I am not a professional pianist--- just an old guy who plays for fun . I learned to play using the named note of the chord. As I played more I found I had to learn the Roman numeral system (I--V--etc). It was very tough to switch, and I go back and forth, using the numeral system when improvising and with songs in a key I don't play in very often. I had to read along with his book to really understand his message. Some great pearls in there though.

Loved It!!!

I sincerely wish the author would make a sequel. It was perfect for me. This book isn't for the novice or amateur musician. Its quick and dirty music theory tips to help with song writing. I Example: If you don't know how to make the "Amen" ending sound with the 5th root, that's one of the tips. Cool stuff!

All talk! Needs audio examples.

I expected to hear examples of the chord progressions played. The complex descriptions lost me very quickly.

No tips here - just wasted time and money

Lost all credibility with mispronunciation of musical term in first 30 seconds. For the novice or intermediate this is a confusing litany of terms and patterns with no explanation or definition. Speaking from experience, some of his "tips" are common sense while others are ludicrously inappropriate .Plus, because the author has played in a band and, he says, has published some songs he proclaims himself well qualified to provide guidance. I know a dozen people, as well as myself, who've had published songs yet wouldn't pretend to be an expert at songwriting. Don't bother.
