I was looking for a BDSM read that got straight to the good stuff! plot is there but emotions run hot in this direct, no nonsense Dom and sub enemies to lovers. I love the author and her positive and consensual approach to the topics and her character development.

The voice actor was wholly miscast for this story. He sounded more like a narrator from an educational animal show or Mister Rogers. I found it creepy.

I read this book years ago and thought it was entertaining. I guess I've gotten smarter or perhaps less tolerant since then. Let's see, within an hour of meeting Julia at a wedding where she discovers that her childhood friend has chosen to be a slave, Dom Marcus has convinced her to walk naked in front of strangers, have her breasts brutally tortured, be tied up and whipped. That's all ok because she received several orgasms out of the deal. The formerly independent professional woman becomes a 'little sub' who crawls for her 'master', surrenders all independence, unable to orgasm without permission. She accepts arbitrary punishments, humiliation and beatings in order to please her master. This is all ok because... well... ORGASMS!!!...and of course she has the 'ultimate control' because she can always stop the pain, humiliation, degradation by using her safe word. That never happens though since Julia, as a member of the weaker sex, the pathetic gender, takes joy in pleasing her monster..oops...her master. Of course Master Marcus is completely unconcerned about her fears....use your safe word or stop complaining! Yellow? You need to slow down? I don't think so, lets just keep going.....

"Master" Marcus doesn't deserve the honorarium. When he first meets the vanilla Julia, a woman he knows isn't in the lifestyle, he manhandles her and threatens to drag her into a room, strip her and beat her. As their relationship develops we are told (endlessly) that: 1. the submissive has all the power and 2. Marcus cherishes his sub, deriving pleasure from her pleasure. In fact he's an over-the-top tyrant. You don't want to be humiliated? I don't accept that and will find ways to break down your concerns. You're 'yellow'? Suck it up princess. You don't want to be my full-time submissive and move in with me? Well I could talk this over with you to reason through your concerns but you've hurt my feelings so I'll call you a "bloody coward" and tell you not to come back until you are crawling and give me everything I want. Julia did indeed crawl back, begged for forgiveness and was beaten by her master for not immediately surrendering to his demands.....It's the beginning of a beautiful relationship because...well....ORGASMs!

I wonder where my head was when I read this book the first time.
