A vengeful, wild-eyed warrior, he's the most sinister figure in Scottish legend. For three centuries, the Tercentennial Baron has fought his way through famous battles - then vanished without a trace. Now he's reappeared in the quiet town of Bonnybield, where he's about to be discovered by 13-year-old Percival Dunbar....
Armed with a secret stash of books on the supernatural, Percival is the only one to recognize the ghostly signs emerging around his town. When he tries to decipher them, he's terrified to suddenly find himself face to face with the murderous Tercentennial Baron. However, the Baron reveals he's come not to attack Bonnybield, but to save it from an ancient, demonic evil.
Through an epic journey from the battlefields of 17th-century Scotland to the underworld of Victorian London and beyond, Percival races to uncover the truth of the Baron's past - and what it means for his own destiny.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I listened to this with my daughter, who is 11, during a long road trip. We were both completely engaged by the story - me especially to the bits of Scottish history, and her to the magical story line. The narrator's voice is perfect and we just loved it, we had not finished the book by the time the trip was over, so we listened to it on the couch for a couple evenings before bed - so fun!Interesting Setting and Engaging Story

It is still worth the listen/read, just be warned about the end which is more of a segway to another book.
Well done and I hope there will be more ...

Percival begins to notice supernatural happenings right before finding himself face to face with The Baron. Fearing The Baron has plans to destroy his hometown, Percival sets out to discover the truth about The Baron. Unfortunately, Percival may not like the truth or its consequences!
Will Damron, the author, has created a dark tale of supernatural creatures that lurk in the shadows and darkness of men’s hearts. A thrilling tale that captures the imagination of his listeners keeping them on the edge of their chairs. Unique and fascinating, Damron lulls his audience into an adventure that is action packed and challenges many to look beyond appearances.
Characters are complex, yet solid; the plot is well-developed and engaging. One cannot help but become engrossed in the tale. Damron weaves the story carefully bringing in Scottish legends as well as writing in the Scottish dialect. I am delighted to know that he has a second book in the plans and I look forward to hearing it!
This was my first time hearing a book narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. The Scottish dialect was well done and flowed smoothly as if natural. Reynolds is one narrator I could listen to for hours as his voice was awesome – he spoke the Scottish dialect consistently, unwaveringly and with a confidence that held the listener mesmerized!
This is a book you won’t want to miss if you enjoy the supernatural, demons, a bit of magic and swords!

The actually story I found to be...boring. I didn't even finish it. Very few books I don't finish. I'm not even sure what it was that I didn't care for or found missing.
Not as great as I thought.

It’s a great tale so far. I’m glad I took a chance because I like the work of TGR.

But yes. It took a long while to get through this, but I’m glad I was able to listen to this story with the narrator. The narrator was amazing and the story was really good. I was hooked right away.
The story follows Percival at first, but then the book switches and we then follow the Baron for a while learning about his past and more about this world. I honestly enjoyed following the Baron more than Percival. Nothing wrong with young Percival, but I honestly loved seeing the Baron and his transformation throughout the centuries.
Poor Baron. He had a tough time of it and it was all because of that blasted event. Poor guy. He just wanted to live a simple life and make a difference for his beloved Scotland. But alas, Destiny has other plans for him. He gets tossed into the world of the supernatural as a supernatural being.
I want to talk more about the narration. I don’t listen to a lot of audio-books. Why? I usually have a hard time focusing and it bothers me how slow it takes. But I utterly enjoyed listening to this narrator. His accents were flawless. His voice captured the story and brought it to life. Listening to him tell the story didn’t feel like an audio-book. I want to listen to more of his stuff! So good.
Okay...lastly…the ending….
No. No. No. You cannot leave me like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! I legit cried when the story was over. So much betrayal and heartache. I am very, very sad. I need to find out what happens next. My poor little heart is so saddened. *sniff*
In the end, I am in love with this story and the narrator. I want more by the author and I want more by the narrator. This is a must read and a must listen. The ending left me upset, but I am excited to see what is to happen next. I shall stamp this with 5 stars.

Anyway, I did rather enjoy this story despite it taking a different route than I had thought. I would not call this “Harry Potter on steroids”. It is nothing like that. It stands on its own. It’s not even YA, like I thought it was. It is more adult. There is some misdirection, mistrust, family, love, loss, anger, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, disbelief, and an ever evil CLIFF HANGER! I had an inkling “who” but not “what” would happen. How long do I have to wait for the 2nd installment? Gah!
3.5/5 stars
