Brie doesn't let being an omega stop her, but things get complicated when she runs out of suppressants and her boss figures out what she is.

Especially since he knows an omega is the one thing any alpha will fight for.

Zander is a retired war general who should be focused on the contracts that could save his new business. When a bar fight leads to a debt owed to a crime boss, he’s reluctant to pay that debt in blood…Until he sees the prize locked in a cage.

He risks it all for a chance to win Brie for himself. Her heat is approaching, and they’re both running out of time.

With a prize worth fighting for, can he find a way to become the alpha who gets to claim her?

The book was...okay. Apparently I've only been reading "sweet" omegaverse books because I was not expecting this. Some trigger warnings wouldn't have gone amiss but some would say it's not dark at all?

I kept wanting the FMC to show a bit more resistance and/or backbone but I guess it follows the domineering alpha, weak reluctant omega trope. I also thought that the dynamics made sense but it was strange that there was no other outer resistance group considering some of the feelings the MMC had. Perhaps this will be part of a larger plot development across the series?? The way that the story is written blames much of the actions on the biology of the characters, but there is one character who falls within the dynamic who doesn't want to be "tied down", and has no problem doing so. This inconsistency is a bit strange unless we see more of this character in later books and they're made to eat their words. Strange also that the FMC's friend cared so much about her but didn't seem to fight very much for her. There is nothing written about her after the bar scene all the way until the end.

It's definitely not my favourite omegaverse story or plot but I definitely wasn't expecting this since all the omegaverse books I've read have been more on the sweet romance side. I'd say this is a slow burn considering the length of the book. I was also expecting fast burn high heat.

The narrator...was not the best for this book. This book would have benefited from having two narrators. When I first started listening, my first thought was that the narrator was quite monotone. He did a good job of adjusting his voice to delineate between the different characters and was actually very good at voicing the MMC, but I didn't like his voice for the FMC. I've heard other male narrators do spectacular jobs when voicing all characters whether, male, female, or other. Overall I just wanted more from this book. There was potential but in the end it wasn't for me.

Okay for a first book, but not what I was expecting

It’s really hard to find audio actors that are comfortable enough to read a deliciously smutty book, like author Leann Ryan is notorious for. Most sound robotic or bored.

Well, I am so happy to say the audio actor for ‘The Omega Prize’, Ryan McConnell does not suffer from any such anomalies. He has an uncanny ability to deliver several distinct deep, growly variances, as well as passable female voices—you know it’s a man, but for some reason it doesn’t bother me the way most do. He’s so animated, in the moment, wrapped in the character, it’s easy to get lost in the book.

The story of Zander and Brie is complicated. Playing so clearly in my mind. Good stuff.

The Omega Prize by Leann Ryans is a bit of a departure from my usual listens. There is plenty of action, and while the plot follows a predictable path, the world-building is solid enough to keep you engaged. However, the main characters felt quite flat; we get a tiny bit of info on Brie and Zander, but not nearly enough to make them feel like three-dimensional people. They stick very closely to the "Reluctant Omega" and "Overbearing Alpha" tropes, and I think if there had been more focus on their specific personalities and history, the story would have been a lot better.
Regarding the audio, Ryan McConnell did an okay job. His delivery is fairly monotone, which was a bit distracting at first. After a few chapters, I got used to it, and it didn't really help or hurt the story—it was just "there." Overall, it’s a good, quick read for Omegaverse fans, but it could have been elevated with more character development and a less rushed ending.

Quick and Enjoyable Sci-Fi Omegaverse

I could listen to this narrator all day long. I love that his voice is deep and smooth, but VERY easy to understand. I am picky on my audiobooks, but this narrator captured my attention and immersed me in the story immediately. I really enjoyed how even though this is a spicy book, it never seemed leazy or overdone. The writing itself is pretty good, especially for it being the authors first. super excited that I found this and it's the first in a trilogy! The story is set in a different world, but is familiar enough that it is very relatable and quite engaging. The characters have depth and the relationships are well done. I am definitely looking up other books he's narrated and can't wait for the next one in this series.

A smooth spicy escape.

The overall story isn’t bad. Not my favorite. Part of that is the narrators though. The way the story goes is, at times: disjointed, skips around and repetitive.

Slow but ok
