Resumen del Editor

Not quite human, not quite beast. Not quite female, not quite male. Sometimes hunter, sometimes prey. Always alone. Until them.

Fiend hunter Sam “Sabertooth” Forest is used to being on the outskirts. Being a cur with a mix of shifter and human blood, Sam can’t fully shift to beast, but can’t fully pass as human. Through sheer determination, and a desire to protect the broken shifter woman who raised them, Sam has managed to eek out a place of their own in a world devastated by the rift that allowed monsters to spill into the earth plane. Sam hunts monsters, sometimes curs and mongrels just like Sam. The work might be dangerous, and the humans might want to put the mixed breed hunter on their hitlist, but it’s a job. It’s freedom. Sam works alone and trusts no one.

The next hunt should bring in a big bounty - big enough to pay the pack extortion fee and keep Sam’s adoptive mother safe through winter. But when a Leprechaun horns in on Sam's unicorn hunt and tricks Sam into forming a hunter’s guild, Sam is suddenly burdened by an overabundance of people.

Setting off to hunt one-horned murder beasts with an annoying leprechaun and a nerdy half-ogre is bad enough. But when you add in a betrayal by the seductive siren Sam has loved since childhood, and the machinations of a rich human politician, well…Sam’s simple, lonely little life just got a whole lot more complicated.

Author’s Note:

I love reverse harem, but I got sick of reading the same old tropes. In my books, you will find atypical characters and varied sexuality. In general, you probably won’t find many alpha males or fainting females.

The Not Quite series is a harem/reverse harem urban fantasy series of novellas (between 35,000-45,000 words) and contains the following:

  • adult language, and lots of it
  • moderate levels of violence/gore/action
  • graphic sexual situations
  • polyamory/ multiple lovers
  • LBGTQ and straight themes (the main character is intersex and will have both male and female lovers, and this is a harem, so expect M/F, M/M, F/F, MMMFF, etc.)

As usual, my characters all have their own emotional scars. This means the book MAY contain mentions of abuse, unpleasant situations, etc. Please do not listen if you are triggered by things like this.

Whole Yes

The fact that there is polyamory an intersex in the same book and did in an amazing way both individually and together is fantastic.
The World building is thoughtful because it takes elements from real life and puts them into this fantasy perspective and is able to make these changes in a way that helps build upon the story, characters and lure. Everyone's personality fits together somehow you wouldn't think you could fit five people in a relationship with varying personalities but Kaye did it and did it damn well. You're not always ready for how much of a f*ck up Sam's going to be but they're able to figure it out and once they do it is truly wonderful.
Having this as a book collection it's just that little added bonus to this truly amazing book series.
This has become one of my favorite book series and that is extremely rare. This is probably one out of three to five books or series that I classify as my favorites.

Why the name calling?

I really loved this book….all except the annoying name calling. I realize the MC was supposed to be all angsty but she called her mates/lovers horrible names all the time. Even after they were established mates. It came off as cruel instead. The storyline was great. The use of an intersex MC was one I hadn’t seen before.

Meh

I wanted to love this. It’s great that this story broke apart the mold for the stereotypical tropes of harems. The overall world was great, it’s obvious Kaye is an amazing author.
However: I *hhhhattteeeddd* Sam after the second book. It got to a point where they were genuinely an awful character. They were bordering on cruel and petulant by book three. By the last I was just….done with them. Sam turned their mates into punching bags for their own issues. Not interested in that at all. Obviously Sam went through some bad shit in their life but basically turning everyone around them into a scratching post? Childish and cruel.

Wanted to love it, Sam got anoying

I loved the world building. The relationships feel really real. I liked how sex work was depicted as not just a terrible, last option. The relationships and love were so beautiful.

I deeply appreciated how body positive the whole story was. There was genuine hottness and appreciation for all bodies. The sex scenes were steamy without having to rely on everyone being traditionally attractive.

A lot of Sam's problems are their own doing. They just can't help themselves. It's a good representation of trauma but was annoying to read. Most of their problems could've been solved with some therapy. It should've been shorter. Sam creating their own problems got old.

There is M/M and group scenes. Everyone genuinely loves everyone and it has big found family themes.
