The male narrator MADE this story. But this is some DAAARRRKKK -ish. Def not a fully willing partner, more like shut up and take it.
Maybe it could be consider 50 Shades but way effing more dark!
If that’s your jam, you’ll like this.
Some of these stuff I had to skip. But honestly I’m here for the story. Can’t hate a girl for her hustle!

Well, well, well—this is the smuttiest Cinderella story I’ve ever read 😅 and the book cuts itself off before she even gets to the ball. Le sigh. The evil step-sisters are replaced with rapey step-brothers, the step-mother is evil as always, and wow—this book made me realize just how very horrible Cinderella’s real father is in EVERY iteration of this old fairy-tale. How a girl with “daddy issues” is most likely the spawn of an ineffectual, quiet narcissist who is never blamed for not protecting his daughter at all—ever—from being tortured and abused in his own home. Neglect, omission, inattention—yeah, the remarried man with a daughter he doesn’t seem to know or see in a personal way is ripe for humiliation by the society she lives in—whether she works as a maid or not.

Oh, but I’m supposed to be talking about this version—so, “Ash” is the (barely) 18 yo protagonist who is discovered by a misogynist/sadist twice her age, and she is coerced into exchanging her beauty/power for cash. And humiliation.

Ash’s world is full of predators. She has a cute bird as a buddy, but her existence is bereft of joy, agency, friends… So: I was left wondering—what is the fairy tale? rich Man (eventually) marries poor girl? Except, she’s not poor, just poorly treated by her own family?

Ok, fine. I’m not supposed to do a close reading here. I think the author made some bold, smutty choices, and I liked the transgressive elements—especially within the Cinderella mythos. I just wouldn’t mind if the fairy tale was retired forever.

The FMC is just 2 days legal when the story begins. it gave me the ick. I finished it bc of a challenge and honestly, I would give it 3 stars mostly bc of that. if she was older it would have been so much better. it just felt more like grooming. they had great banter...but some of the scenes...like the ones with no lube and her age...ick.
