This was my first D.A. Maddox's book. This dystopian reality TV show is unquestionably original and naughty. Robbie, Maddy, and Nurse Reyes-Garcia are interesting characters. The storyline is definitely imaginative, but out of my comfort zone. Lexi Evans did a great job with the narration. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Dystopian Reality TV Show

This was the first book I've read/listened to by D.A. Maddox. It was different than my normal reads as it had a dystopian flair to it. I have enjoyed watching the trope on television, but it was a first for reading/listening. I have such mixed feelings. Sigh. Parts of me loved the main characters, Robbie, Piper, as well as Nurse Garcia. But the punishment system was shocking. So hard for me to enjoy, even as fantasy. The punishment is supposed to fit the crime. I was anticipating that, but it fell so short. I had chills throughout the book. I was chagrined and I wasn’t in trouble! This author has quite the imagination! Honestly, parts of this made me ill...older women(like a granny) and men s*xually handling young college aged "transitionals" who were in trouble...not saying no, but not saying yes either...because of their understanding of what was happening and situations they had gotten into. They were forced. It's such a fine line of sexual abuse that has no real resolve. Surely I missed something even though I tried not to get distracted while listening. I understand dark romance, enjoy dark romance, but having trouble excepting this one. This was an insta love because there was no getting to know you romance that we saw. Maybe that's where it fell short? Ugh...I'll keep thinking on this and come back to revise my review if I come to another conclusion. Part of me wants to read more and see if there's something I missed!

Lexi Evans is an excellent narrator. She made this book roll like a movie in my head. Her performance was perfection for both female and male parts!

Different - having trouble reviewing

This is the 2nd book I have listened to by D.A. Maddox. I really like this author and the world he is building. This is a strange world where college age kids are not yet considered adults, they are transitionals. As a transitional you better hope you do not get in trouble because if you do you may just find yourself on "Consequences Live" and that is where the fun begins. It has its fair share of explicit BDSM scenes which at times makes you feel a bit sorry for the protagonist. That is intended as the author did a nice job of developing characters, I actually ended up liking a couple that you were probably not intended to. As alluded to in the headline, there is a couple of love relationships as well. If you are not a fan of sexually explicit books with bondage and S&M I would not recommend this. But if you don't mind a bit of whips and chains, with a little humor added this is a great listen.

Lexi Evans who did the narration is outstanding. The different character voices are flawless with good accents and male voices. There is something about her voice that makes this very "sexy", for that reason I really recommend it in an audio format instead of just reading the book.

I look forward to the next venture between author and narrator.

A Love Story Hidden in a Dystopian Bondage World.

Having only made it to the interview portion of the story I can't offer a full opinion but I feel I must weigh in early. It's really refreshing to experience true tradecraft in this genre. The way Maddox builds the characters just enough to hang on to every moment of development is pure genius. The suspense during the interview with nurse Garcia-Reyes is electric, bringing out in me a new puberty, allowing me to re-experience those precious moments of youth and discovery. Details, descriptive prowess, and incredible dialogue make this alot of fun. It's very refreshing to get some No Holds Barred fiction that stirs an excitement in me I have not tapped into in a long time. Thank you D.A.

That's this book in a nutshell. For those who like this sort of thing, that is the sort of thing that they like. No sex at all. No BDSM, properly speaking. An attempt to construct a dystopian future society that falls flat. I returned this title after a valiant effort to give it a chance. I wish the descriptions were more forthright and honest.
