Due to his father’s ill health the family farm was sold to Mr. Hayword, their neighbor, and Taylor becomes a tenant farmer. Then Taylor’s young wife, Ashley, works as housemaid and quasi-nurse for Mr. Hayward after he becomes ill. Upon passing the land goes to Desmond, the black nephew from Mississippi, who comes up to clear the probate and settle the estate. So, the stage is set for this well-developed story of country cuckoldry as Ashley with Taylor insistence becomes more than Desmond’s housekeeper. This is a great well developed and detailed story and the author’s first Audiobook derived from her book. I look forward to hearing the remaining stories in this series as they are narrated into audio. The only reason for a performance of 4 stars was because C.C. Kline's narration while great just didn't fit the accent one would expect from a small midwest farm.
