Setting
A Court of Thorns and Roses is set in a world that blends elements of medieval fantasy with faerie folklore. The story takes place in a land divided between the mortal realm and Prythian, the magical domain of the Fae. This setting evokes a sense of timelessness, combining aspects of ancient mythology with a quasi-medieval human society.
The mortal lands, where the protagonist Feyre initially resides, are depicted as a harsh and impoverished environment. Here, humans struggle to survive in the shadow of the formidable Fae territories to the north. Prythian is divided into seven courts, each ruled by a High Lord and possessing its own distinct characteristics. The Spring Court, where much of the early story unfolds, is described as a lush, vibrant realm teeming with natural beauty and magic. As the story progresses, readers are introduced to other areas within Prythian, such as the mysterious and foreboding Night Court. These diverse settings showcase the rich tapestry of the faerie world, from sun-drenched forests to treacherous mountain ranges and glittering coastal regions. The author's vivid descriptions bring these fantastical landscapes to life, creating an immersive backdrop for the unfolding drama and romance.
