Whose voice

should tell a memoir? Right now I’m reading the top secret manuscript of an unpublished memoir so brand new that it exists only as a sheaf of looseleaf printer paper, the pages held together with an enormous binder clip. Soon Audible will be turning this memoir into an audiobook, and we can’t stop talking about who should narrate. Should we cast an actor with voiceover chops? Or should we go with the author herself?? It’s a very special memoir that I have a lot of love for (I can’t wait to tell you more!), so we really want to get it right.

I can think of times when an author has narrated their memoir with brilliant success (looking at you, Trevor Noah), and other times when it, ah, wasn’t necessarily such a good idea…(names redacted to protect the innocent!). But I want to know what you think—whose voice do *you* think should tell a memoir? Come find me on twitter @rach_smalls and let me know!
