One thing
I've always loved about the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year's is the opportunity to keep traditions alive—and most of mine involve food, family, and books! From the homemade cranberry relish that was on the table last Thursday, to baking cookies while listening to Dylan Thomas's A Child's Christmas in Wales, to eating black-eyed peas for luck on New Year's Day, there's quite a list to check off. This year, I'm hoping to make holiday listening a new family tradition, so I'm filling up the virtual shelves in my Audible library to be ready for any listening opportunity. With any luck, I'll have something for everyone—from the snake-obsessed five-year-old to the artistic teen!-

With the groundbreaking Caldecott winner The Snowy Day, the first mainstream picture book to feature an African American child, Ezra Jack Keats became part of children's literature history. Keats's best-loved books are the ones that portray the neighborhood where he grew up. He was an inspiration to many artists of color, who, for the first time, saw themselves reflected in his books.
A blanket of snow and marshmallow dreams
Throughout the holiday season, I revert to my childhood routines when it comes to bedtime. After I put on my pajamas, I'll make a cup of cocoa, curl up with my favorite blanket, and settle down to listen to a winter story. Some are holiday tales while others reflect the icy cold and snow that swirls outside my window, but all of them help me settle down for a long winter's nap!

This rhythmic, read-aloud title is an unbridled celebration of the self-esteem, confidence, and swagger boys feel when they leave the barber's chair - a tradition that places on their heads a figurative crown, beaming with jewels, that confirms their brilliance and worth and helps them not only love and accept themselves but also take a giant step toward caring how they present themselves to the world. Crown is a high-spirited, engaging salute to the beautiful, raw, assured humanity of black boys and how they see themselves when they approve of their reflections in the mirror.
